Air Force Band
air force regional band audition/enlistment?
I am a junior in high school who believes that he has the potential to pursue trombone in the air force regional band. I understand the audition procedures.
I want to know if there is anyone out there who is or knows someone who is in the air force regional band who could give me some tips or advice.
Although i have done thorough research i still feel that there is more knowledge i can gain based on another ones experience as a regional bandsmen for the USAF.

You can only audition when they post on their web site they need someone to play the trombone. I don't know about the regional band but the USAF Band in Washington is very competitive and everyone has some sort of music degree.

getting into the Air force academy?
can you tell me how good a chance i have of getting into the Air force academy?
i'm in 8th grade
the past 4 years i've gotten straight A's
i'm gong to be in jrotc next year
I'm also going to join civil air patrol
i'm the symphonic band trumpet section leader(top 10 for drum major)
i swim competitively
i'm going to swim and play on the water polo team for my highschool
i can do 7 pullups, 45 pushups, 100+ crunches, mile time: 7:25
i know it doesn't help but my great uncle was the base commander at the academy before he retired

Keep doing the things you are through high school and you will be well on your way to earning an Loa(letter of assurance) as long as you have Sat scores to match your Gpa. This is for the Naval Academy but the Loa process and entire admissions process is essentially identical at the Air Force Academy, West Point and the Naval Academy.

The Sat Math tests Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry so if you are taking any of these classes at the present time you want to make sure you understand the material completely. One good way to prep for the Sat Cr is to start reading good literature outside of class on your own. Even as little as 20 minutes a day adds up over the years. Look up unknown words in a dictionary and write down the meanings.
