High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Paratroopers are soldiers trained in parachuting and generally operate as part of an airborne force. Paratroopers are used for tactical advantage as they can be inserted into the battlefield from the air, thereby allowing them to be positioned in areas not accessible by land. It is one of the three types of forced entry strategic techniques for entering a theater of war; the other two are by land and sea. This ability to enter the battle from different locations allows paratroopers to evade fortifications that are in place to prevent attack from a specific direction, and the possible use of paratroopers forces an army to spread their defenses to protect other areas which would normally be safe by virtue of the geography. Another common use for paratroopers is to establish an airhead for landing other units. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. The 17th Airborne Division was an airborne formation in the United States Army during World War II, and was commanded by Major General William M. Miley. It was officially activated as an airborne division in April 1943 but was not immediately shipped out to a combat theater, remaining in the United States to complete its training. During this training process, the division took part in several training exercises, including the Knollwood Maneuver, in which it played a vital part in ensuring that the airborne division remained as a military formation in the United States Army after the poor performance of American airborne forces in Sicily. As such it did not take part in the first two largescale airborne operations conducted by the Allies, Operation Husky and Operation Neptune, only transferring to Britain after the end of Operation Overlord. When the division arrived in Britain, it came under the command of XVIII Airborne Corps, part of the First Allied Airborne Army, but was not chosen to participate in Operation MarketGarden, the airborne landings in Holland, as Allied planners believed it had arrived too late and could not prepare itself in time for the operation. Paratrooper 82nd Airborne Division

Are there female Soldiers in the 82nd Airborne?

Obviously there are no female Soldiers in the Infantry or Paratroopers but can a female Soldier be assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division after AIT? Does going to Airborne school right after AIT make this more likely?

There are many female Paratroopers. Airborne School is not just for boys anymore. Also, the 82ND is a Division - meaning totally self-sufficient in terms of personnel. There are many MOS's in the 82ND to include MP's, Chemical, Admin, Supply, Quartermaster, etc. So there may be women in many different parts in the 82ND.
