Questions on becoming a Tac-P/ JTAC?

Well first off my name is Casey and I'm a Senior Airman in the USAF. Currently I am a 1N1X1 (Imagery Analyst). I have been in for almost 3.5 years in this career field and I am already bored with it. I can do the job as it stands right now but I was raised around weapons, and when I jump in on targeting operations and see ground units forward I get the feeling that I could be putting my abilities to much better use. So being Air Force and not wanting to go security forces I was wondering what I would have to do to become a JTAC/ TAC-P. I know that I can request to retrain into the field but my question is what type of training is involved? How long is the training? What's it like being a JTAC? If you could please add any other important details as to becoming a JTAC and life as a JTAC. Thanks in advance.

Casey

Hi Casy, I am not a TACP but my next door nieghbor is (for our Brigade). He is away right now but I called him and he said to go this site:

http://www.romad.com/main.htm

for this best info.

This is from http://www.romad.com/main.htm, FAQ section about about answering some of your questions:

"First hit the message board on this site, its under communications. On there you will find two areas that will answer your questions. first is 'Ask the School House' then there is 'Cross Training'. HIGHLY recommend that you read all the posts before posting a question. 99 times out of 100, its already been asked and answered. Next is your MPF. Although they may not have much, they might have something you can use."

The main training for 1C4 3-Level,
Tactical Air Command and Control Apprentice is the "Air Education and Training Command / Enlisted Operations Training". It is 73 days long and is conducted on Hurlburt Field, Eglin AFB, FL.

Here are some media links below about Airman doing the job or about the job to give you an idea. My neighbor loves it and is going to apply for a SF or Ranger Regiment position since he has over 5 years of experience.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Airman Basic (AB) is the lowest enlisted rank in the United States Air Force (USAF), immediately below Airman. The pay grade for Airman Basic is E1. As opposed to all other USAF enlisted and officer ranks, Airman Basic has no rank insignia affiliated. The lack of uniform insignia for Airmen Basic is the impetus for the nickname slicksleeve, in contrast to all other enlisted Air Force ranks which wear their stripes/chevrons on their uniform sleeves. In accordance with Air Force Instruction (AFI) 362618, The Enlisted Force Structure, the term of address for an Airman Basic is Airman Basic or Airman. What is the difference between the 4 different job categories in the RAF?

Hi I think i'm going to join the RAF but I was just wondering what is the difference between the 4 different job categories that are on the RAF website, the 4 categories are:

Officer
Airman/Airwoman
RAF regiment
Non-Commissioned Aircrew

I have watched a lot of world war 2 movies and I know that officers are like the leaders and i'm taking it that the RAF regiment is the RAF's equivalent of the Army's ground troops. But I just want to know the difference between all 4 of these because when looking on the Airman and Airwoman jobs none of them actually involve flying they are just like chef's etc...

Officers are the leaders, airmen/airwomen are enlisted; RAF Regiment is the defence force of the RAF - made up of airmen and officers. Non-commissioned aircrew is self explanatory.
