How to Write A Battle Scene?
I'm trying to write an exciting but not overwhelming battle scene through the eyes of a heroic soldier. Has anyone had any experience writing modern/futuristic combat scenes / can reccomend to me books with good combat scenes?

I guess, Eragon, but I don't like plagiarism, so I wouldn't recommend.
I always watch a battle movie or play a strategy war game before writing such scnes.
Scenes from Gladiator, Spartacus, Troy from the ancient and films on modern warfare, Pearl Harbour, Saving Private Ryan and stuff.
But be creative.

Were there men that popped up in the battle scene Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland (ship vs castle)?
In the original Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland, the cannon battle between the boat and castle, were there men that popped up on the boat and castle and spoke to each other? And when i say original i mean before they added Jack Sparrow.
Yes there has always been the pirates moving up and down both on the castle and on the ship. And yes they are yelling at each other.

At a guess I'm going to say you've heard the music from GLORY that has been used in may trailers for war movies. Similar music has been used in other movies but the choral part used in the soundtrack for GLORY was written for that movie.
