Boat Troops

In WW2 what did the landing craft drivers do when they reached the beach?
The people who had to drive the troops from the boat to the beach, such as the D-Day landings or around the pacific islands. Would these people have to fight after/drop to the floor for safety or just try and reverse right away?
Thanks ![]()
If able they would load up wounded and take them back to the ship before returning with another load of troops or supplies.

In world travel can you get a tourist ship that goes all the way around the world leaving from Boston?
In the 1950s area "Slow Boat to China" was a favorite tune. I love to travel. Is there a way to Travel by boat from Boston all around the world to the other side to Thailand, Or would it be Boston Europe, Train then short plane flight for Bangcock? The only time I was on a ship was 1963 from NewYork to Germany aboard a military troop ship. I wonder if anyone here has gone that long distance to the other side of the world on a tourist ship?
I'm sure there is a way. It may be costly, though.
