Please help me create a cast for the Alamo?

My teacher gave us a project and one part of it is creating a cast of charecters just like if we want to make a movie about the Alamo. He said that we have to select famous actors. He says that you have to pick a actor/actress that fits the person he or she is playing, for example, we couldn't choose a white person to play Santa Anna. Also, the personalities of the actor and the person that he plays have to be simmilar. Supposely we can't pick actors that did the "The Alamo" movies. I have no idea how to do this project. Please help me the best you can. Try to follow the tips mentioned above for me, but if you can't, I think it'll be alright if you break just a few rules. Thanks a ton. The mandentory charecters are Colonel Travis, Bowie, Santa Anna, and Crockett. Optional (extra credit) charecters are Juan Seguin, Susanna Dickinson

Well, I would think that all you would have to do is think of the actors of today's Hollywood. I'm older so I don't know many of them. But, what about Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Tom Hanks, or Christian Bale? They are very adaptable and could play any part you think would be best. Bale is best at dark, brooding characters. I don't know off-hand who that would fit, but I'm sure you'll think of something.

Make sure the actress playing Susanna is not one of the latest distsy blonds I see in all the trailers.

Rated: NRSynopsis: A sprawling, long-winded, and unabashedly patriotic spectacle, John Wayne's The Alamo provides the definitive motion-picture representation of the 13-day siege that enabled Texas to secure its independence from Mexico. This 1960 epic, a deeply personal project that obsessed Wayne for years and sapped his personal fortune, plays fast-and-loose with historical reality; nonetheless, it admirably conveys the indomitable spirit of the martyred "Texicans" whose heroic defense of an old mission in San Antonio bought precious time for the burgeoning rebel army that ultimately defeated Mexican general Santa Anna. Wayne, who produced and directed the picture (reportedly with some assistance from his old friend and mentor, John Ford), plays Davy Crockett to Richard Widmark's Jim Bowie and Laurence Harvey's William Travis. The battle scenes are lavishly mounted and impeccably staged, but there's more to The Alamo than gunsmoke and cannon fire: James Edward Grant's script is peppered with stirring odes to democracy, and Dimitri Tiomkin complements Wayne's images with one of his most evocative musical scores. MGM's latest DVD release presents the film in its traditional release version of 161 minutes; a longer cut -- the film's "roadshow" version -- appeared on laserdisc some years ago. John Wayne's directorial debut The Alamo is set in 1836: Wayne plays Col. Davy Crockett, who, together with Colonels Jim Bowie (Richard Widmark) and William Travis (Laurence Harvey) and 184 hardy Americans and Texicans, defends the Alamo mission against the troops of Mexican general Santa Ana. There's a lot of macho byplay before the actual attack, including the famous "letter" scene in which Wayne craftily rouses the patriotic ire of his subordinates. Also appearing are Richard Boone as Sam Houston, and Chill Wills (whose somewhat tasteless Oscar campaign has since become legendary in the annals of shameless self-promotion) as Beekeeper. Wayne's production crew was compelled to reconstruct the Alamo in Bracketville, Texas, about a hundred miles from the actual site. Dimitri Tiomkin's score, including "The Green Leaves of Summer," received generous airplay on the Top-40 radio outlets of America. Rumors persist that Wayne's old pal John Ford directed most of The Alamo; cut to 161 minutes for its general release, the film was restored to its original, 192-minute length in 1992. Rated: PG13Synopsis: One of American history's most colorful (and increasingly controversial) episodes is dramatized on the big screen yet again in this lavishly appointed epic, which combines fact and fiction in a genuinely engaging manner. The year is 1836, and American-born settlers in Mexican-controlled Texas stage a revolt against military dictator Santa Anna (Emilio Echevarria). Holed up in an old Spanish mission outside San Antonio, squabbling Texans Jim Bowie (Jason Patric) and William Travis (Patrick Wilson) are joined by legendary frontiersman Davy Crockett (Billy Bob Thornton) and a small band of fortune-seeking Tennesseans, only to be outnumbered and besieged by an army of thousands, while awaiting reinforcements lead by General Sam Houston (Dennis Quaid). Director John Lee Hancock (The Rookie), perhaps overly encumbered by the script's wealth of factual material, doesn't always maintain a strict timeline in depicting the 13-day siege. The complexities of the Texan-Mexican quarrel are never really addressed, and key historical figures -- such as Stephen Austin -- are either given short shrift or ignored altogether. But the Battle of the Alamo is vividly staged and incorporates both recently discovered facts and hotly contested suppositions -- among them the belief that Davy Crockett survived the battle. At times The Alamo is confusing, mostly due to choppy editing and inadequately elucidated motivations, but on balance it's a rousing historical drama depicting an event that even today continues to have surprising relevance to Americans. Re-teaming Dennis Quaid with John Lee Hancock, the director of 2002's The Rookie, The Alamo retells the story of the historic 1836 battle in the Texan War of Independence. Facing 4,000 Mexican troops, 186 Texan soldiers and volunteers -- including William Travis (Patrick Wilson), Davy Crockett (Billy Bob Thornton), and Jim Bowie (Jason Patric) -- retreat within the walls of the Alamo, a Franciscan mission that was converted into a military fort. Once inside, the men prepare themselves for what will be a bloody battle to the death, as General Sam Houston (Quaid) leads the charge from the outside. Emilio Echevarria and Jordi Molla co-star. An epic that evokes films such as HOW THE WEST WAS WON and DANCES WITH WOLVES, THE ALAMO details the key 1863 battle fought to win Texas from the Mexican government. Originally constructed as a Spanish mission, the Alamo provided a secure post between Texas settlements and the troops of General Santa Anna (Emilio Echevarria), protecting the scores of people working to develop the budding territory, including Davy Crockett (Billy Bob Thornton), James Bowie (Jason Patric), and Sam Houston (Dennis Quaid). But when it was left in the care of an inexperienced leader, the men stationed at the Alamo found themselves in a deadly ambush by Santa Anna. With an insurmountable advantage in strategy and sheer numbers, Santa Anna led the complete slaughter of Alamo forces, an act that incited the ire of Houston who initiated the turnaround that brought Santa Anna`s quick defeat.Thornton provides a standout performance as Davy Crockett, who had gained notoriety as an adventurer, rumored to have jumped the Mississippi River. As the Alamo troops prepare to fight, Thornton`s nuanced Crockett tempers their adrenalin with horrific battle tales and helps them come to terms with their impending mortality. While graphically reminding viewers of the horrors of war, the film also pays homage to the bravery and patriotism of the men who fought to liberate Texas, live in a free democratic society, and build better lives.

James Jim Bowie (April 10, 1796 March 6, 1836), a 19thcentury American pioneer and soldier, played a prominent role in the Texas Revolution, culminating in his death at the Battle of the Alamo. Countless stories of him as a fighter and frontiersman, both real and fictitious, have made him a legendary figure in Texas history and a folk hero of American culture. Born in Kentucky, Bowie spent most of his life in Louisiana, where he was raised and later worked as a land speculator. His rise to fame began in 1827 on reports of the Sandbar Fight. What began as a duel between two other men deteriorated into a melee in which Bowie, having been shot and stabbed, killed the sheriff of Rapides Parish with a large knife. This, and other stories of Bowies prowess with the knife, led to the widespread popularity of the Bowie knife. Bowies reputation was cemented by his role in the Texas Revolution. After moving to Texas in 1830, Bowie became a Mexican citizen and married the daughter of the vice governor of the province. Remember the Alamo

Remember the Alamo

$28.8

Remember the Alamo presents a fresh look at one of the most famous battles in American history. The story has been told countless times in everything from comic books to feature films. Always it is the brave Americans—Jim Bowie, Davy Crockett, William Travis, and others—fighting the overwhelming forces of a cruel dictator for the right to live in a Texas independent of Mexican rule. Too often, little mention is made of the Tejanos—Mexican Texans—who put their lives on the line to fight alongside the other defenders at the Alamo. And what about Santa Anna? Was he so wrong in trying to keep Americans from taking over his country? Clearly there is more to the story. Paul Robert Walker has studied the evidence—messages sent out from the Alamo before the battle, reports written by Tejano and Texian leaders, eyewitness accounts from a slave and the handful of women and children who were spared by Santa Anna, and stories told by Mexican officers and soldiers. He has consulted with experts, examined the historic sites, and read the most recent scholarly theories to present the story of the Alamo through the eyes of Texians, Tejanos, and Mexicans as you`ve never heard it before.
