High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Fleet Admiral William Frederick Halsey, Jr., USN, (October 30, 1882 August 16, 1959) (called Bill Halsey and sometimes known as Bull Halsey), was a U.S. Naval officer and the commander of the United States Third Fleet during part of the Pacific War against Japan. Earlier, he had commanded the South Pacific Theater during desperate times.Halsey was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on October 30, 1882, the son of Captain William F. Halsey, Sr., USN. After waiting two years for an appointment to the United States Naval Academy, young Halsey decided to study medicine at the University of Virginia and then to get into the Navy as a doctor. He chose that university because his best friend, Karl Osterhause, was there. Years later, Halsey admitted that he learned little during his one and only year at Virginia, but he had a wonderful time. Despite that, Halsey was a member of the elite and secretive Seven Society. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles John Halsey (died 1708) was a colonial American privateer and a later pirate who was active in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans during the early 18th century. Although much of his life and career is unknown, he is recorded in A General History of the Pyrates which states He was brave in his Person, courteous to all his Prisoners, lived beloved, and died regretted by his own People. His Grave was made in a garden of watermelons, and fenced in with Palisades to prevent his being rooted up by wild Hogs. Born in Boston, Halsey became a privateer in the service of Great Britain commanding the 10gun brigantine Charles during the War of the Spanish Succession, or Queen Annes War as it was known in the American colonies, and raided French fishing fleets in the Newfoundland and later sailed to Fayal in the Azores and the to the Canary Islands where he attacked Spanish ships en route to Barcelona during 1704. During the voyage, several of his men deserted as he put his lieutenant ashore at Cape Verde. The National Marine Corps Museum opened in DC Nov of last year. Contact them. If they don't need it, look for some of the unit's that the stuff is from that are still active today. They would love to have stuff like that. Maybe one of the Marine Corps bases would display it. I'm sure it shouldn't be hard to find a place for your treasures. If you have no luck or time, contact me and I will be more than happy to help find a home. Semper Fi!!!!!

One Response to “Bull Halsey”

  1. Brandon:
Your view is inconsistent with historical Just War Theory and, quite frankly, a bit frightening. Under such a view, no one is safe. Why, then, should we be so righteously indignant at what happened at the World Trade Centre if all is fair and everyone is a target? I shudder to think that Gracie Mae would be considered a legitimate target in a military engagement but, under your view, she could be killed with a clean conscience?

Regarding Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the evidence (both now and at the time) showed that 1) Japan was on the verge of surrendering anyway and 2) they had been rendered militarily impotent and were confined to the home islands. There was no need to invade them. They were contained and posed no danger to us or the world by that point.

The top military commanders and advisors at the time told Truman as much and even the likes of Bull Halsey labeled the action a disgusting travesty.

I hope you will reconsider your views regarding the proper use of force.
