Celtic Gaul
Celtic Gaul
Are the redheads in Northern Italy more likely to be of Celtic origin (the Gauls) or are they Germanic?

Pale and green/blue eyed redheads in North-Eastern Italy specifically.

The Celts did occupy that region after they sacked Rome. Rome reconquered it and many other groups invaded. Redheads seem to be more common in Celts but there must be a lot of German influence as well. Since Rome had the general policy of allowing local rule, I would think that the Romans in the north were probably of Celtic descent. They were probably diluted by mixing with Roman and other groups later including some Germanic tribes.

Dying Gaul

Dying Gaul

$70.1

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Dying Gaul (in Italian: Galata Morente ) is an ancient Roman marble copy of a lost Hellenistic sculpture that is thought to have been executed in bronze, which was commissioned some time between 230 BC and 220 BC by Attalus I of Pergamon to celebrate his victory over the Celtic Galatians in Anatolia. The present base was added after its rediscovery. The identity of the sculptor of the original is unknown, but it has been suggested that Epigonus, the court sculptor of the Attalid dynasty of Pergamon, may have been its sculptor. The statue depicts a dying Celt with remarkable realism, particularly in the face, and may have been painted. He is represented as a Gallic warrior with a typically Gallic hairstyle and moustache. The figure is naked save for a neck torc. He lies on his fallen shield while his sword and other objects lie beside him. Celtic (Gael, Gaul) ARt is Not Dead Yet

Were the ancient Romans Celtic?

Hi, were the ancient romans celts... infamous gauls bred wit Greeks, i have dis theory. kind of like how Spaniards bred wit Aztec ppl and created Mexicans. For they cannot be related to today's Italians because today's Italians are so short, greasy and ugly looking and infamous Nero had blonde hair wit blue eyes.

Reply.
Who cares if you're offended you short, fat, greasy Italian?

No, they were not. The truth be told, Romulus and Remes's mother was from the City of Troy. They were Greek in overall origin. Of course, they also have close cultural / social tie's to the Etruscans. And really, Romulus offered sanctuary to all kinds of outkasts, i.e.: pirates, outlaws, etc... to get the population of Rome up to snuff. So it could be argued "Romans" were multi ethnical, but I would say they (the noble families anyway) were either of Etruscan or Greek overall decent, but mostly Etruscan, as if there were more Greek, they would of spoken Greek and not Latin (like the Etruscans).

One Response to “Celtic Gaul”

  1. Gaelic were the Scots, and the Irish
Celts (say it KELL- not SELL) were souther and western English and Welsh
    Gauls were French
spain was technically part of the original Grecian territories, so was somewhat part of the Roman empire whereas the norther European countries were so fundamentally different and not happy with the Empires "Civilising them" and forcing conversions they were where the term barbarians came from- Even steppe landers were more respected possibly until Charlamagne's time.
