Command Post Apprentice?

I chose Command Post Apprentice as my first job choice when I talked to the job counselor at MEPS a few days ago. Does anyone know the how likely it would be for me to actually get that job?
The earliest I can leave for basic is August 4th, if it matters any. I heard that the Air Force does their new job things in October, so should I wait until October for the job?
My other choices were Computer Systems Operations, Computer Systems Planning & Implementation, and Space Systems Operations.

Any good?

Oh & I haven't talked to my recruiter about jobs yet. I see her on Monday.

This is 100% serious. I'm an officer (Pilot) in the USAF (have been for 10 years).

The "Command Post" is a place that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. That should be your first hint that you are making a mistake unless you LOVE shift work. You will probably have the midnight shift every holiday and weekend until you have been in for 4 years.

Their job? They answer the phone. They help provide storage for Top Secret materials. They coordinate the tracking of certain people and certain functions throughout the base. Nothing to great....

Bottom line - I hope the recruiter hasn't made this sound all super-awesome "command"ish. It is really just an office job, except it's one of the few USAF jobs that is 24 hours a day (like security forces). I'm not saying NOT to do it, because somebody has to, but i'd go computers or missiles before I sat in the command post.

Having published numerous works on the Soviet and post-Soviet economy, Columbia University`s Richard Ericson is well placed to provide this excellent account of one of the major transition economies. The book traces the way in which the Russian economy was effectively destroyed by President Gorbachev`s reforms with the institutional, cultural and organizational legacies of the command economy doggedly continuing to constrain policy reform and implementation. This readable and authoritative book is an exceptional contribution to the debate that comes from a balanced and fair perspective.

“An excellent, vividly written argument [that] could not have come at a better time. —The Washington Post“Brilliant. . . . Cohen argues convincingly that all great wartime leaders—Lincoln, Clemenceau, Churchill, Ben Gurion—never left the military to make its own policy, but constantly prodded, challenged, and gave it direction.” —National Review“A brilliant account of Lincoln, Churchill, Clemenceau and Ben Gurion—how each man handled the military leaders who served him.”—The Wall Street Journal“Fascinating.…Mr. Cohen's point is ultimately not a sentimental but a substantive one.…His elucidation of his theory is organized tightly and rendered crisply.”— The New York Times“Superb . . . Cohen is persuasive in his argument.” —Los Angeles Times Book Review“Every so often a book appears just at the moment when it is most needed. . . . Such a book is Supreme Command, a superb study of civilian commanders in chief in times of war by the nation's leading scholar of military-civilian relations.”–The Weekly Standard“Cohen's well-written, absorbing critique of the normal theory is nothing short of crushing. . . . Invaluable.”–The New Leader “It is well worth devoting some energy to stamping on the myth that soldiers should be allowed to go about their business without pesky politicians getting in the way, and an important contribution to this demolition job has been made by Eliot Cohen.”–The Economist “Supreme Command is Cohen’s tour de force. . . . An eloquent, eminently approachable argument. . . . Essential reading.”–Choice“Supreme Command will be read as often by the professional military and the civil servants and politicians

One of the rarer aircraft that the US Air Force (USAF) operates is the E-4B Advanced Airborne Command Post, with the first example entering service in 1974. There are only four of these Boeing 747 aircraft in existence, and they remain on hand to act as survivable airborne command posts for the US President and Secretary of Defense. The E-4B is based on a Boeing 747-200 airframe, and it can stay aloft via an aerial refueling system. All four E-4Bs are operated by the 1st Airborne Command and Control Squadron (1ACCS) of the 55th Wing at Offutt Air Force base in Omaha, Nebraska. These aircraft are hardened against electromagnetic pulses (EMP) caused by nuclear blasts, plus they have nuclear- and thermal-effects shielding. Valued at USD250 million each, the E-4B fleet began undergoing an upgrade in 2005. A mission requires at least 48 crewmen, and one aircraft is on alert 24 hours a day ready for a national emergency. The E-4B's unique electronic and communications capabilities ensure it Size: 1:400 Type: Models & Miniatures Color: Multi-Color Color Mapping: Multi-Color

Rated: NRSynopsis: With shoot-'em-ups galore, a clean-cut hero, dust-beaten horse soldiers and fearless warriors, The Command - Warner Bros.' first CinemaScope? release - is a galloping entertainment success. Guy Madison portrays 7th cavalry doctor Capt. Robert MacClaw, unexpectedly handed the reins of his battered troop's command. Unfamiliar with by-the-book military tactics, MacClaw nevertheless knows how to take charge. He keeps the book closed and his mind open as he leads his men and a settlers' wagon train on a desperate journey besieged by waves of Indian attacks. Multiple Oscar? winner* Dimitri Tiomkin provides the lively score pacing the thunderous action. And plenty of hoofs provide the thunder: the movie's wrangler estimated the project required 41,882 horse-hours (number of horses times number of hours used). That ain't hay!

Inside the Command Post - Episode #17 - SBFD

If command Sponsored, can you live off post?

My husband is supposed to go to Korea. now on the off chance that I get command sponsorship, what are the chances we could live off post? i don't WANT to live off post, however, I was reading that the Family housing units dont allow pets, so off post it is. Is that even possible?

The best thing to do is contact the base's housing office..they can tell you the regs on that. Some commands may be ok with it, others may not, especially if they have empty housing units on base. However, there are other things to know about pets. Most bases will allow pets, depending on the type of unit. If base housing won't allow them at all, then chances are you may not be able to bring the animals with you, at least not with the military's support. That would mean paying the transport cost for the pets out of pocket, as well as following the protocal/laws of the host nation for importing animals...and that can mean quarrantine (and again, that cost would be out of pocket). It is also quite likely that they reason they don't support pets on base is because there is no access the military vets. Seeking vet care off base would be extremely tough..language issues aside, many countries do not have the sheer number of vets we do, so you simply may not have one near by. You may need to consider leaving your pets behind if you are allowed to accompany your spouse..and even if servicse are available, keep in mind many pets will not handle the extended travel in the hold of the plane.
