The Devil's own Work: The Civil War draft Riots and the fight to reconstruct America
During the American Civil War, did Union troops ever reach New Orleans Louisiana?
Again, lol third time, I need to know this for my story...I know the war ended when Confederate troops surrendered at Appomattoxx in Virginia, in 1865, but I was wondering if any native New Orleanians ever saw a 'bluecoat/yankee'.
Thanks, and another...sorta odd question...
I know from books and well common sense, that during the seiges and battles in the war, the places affected, their diet was diffferent. When New Orleans was under battle, did they still have acess to Crawfish, Crabs, and Shrimp? And if so, how did they cook them, and if not, what did they eat?
Yes
The Capture of New Orleans (April 25 - May 1, 1862) during the American Civil War was an important event for the Union. Having fought past Forts Jackson and St. Philip, the Union capture of the city itself was unopposed, sparing the destruction suffered by many other Southern cities. However, a firm and severe administration of the city by its military governor caused lasting resentment. This capture of the largest Confederate city was a major turning point and an incident of international importance.
