Remember it fondly. I was in grade school and remember rushing home after school to log in before anyone else on one of our local BBSes. It was called Dragon World and had ~24 lines IIRC. By ~4:00pm every line was used and you had to setup ProComm plus to hammer the number for hours before you could get connect. On Dragon World, the teleconfrence was probably one of the biggest features. Dragon World ran on Galacticom MBBS software which allowed for all 24 users to be connected and chatting at the same time. This was HUGE back then; there was nothing like it. Flash games, food fight, and “brawl” were all games you could play with other uses connected to telecom. I could write pages and pages about every one of these things but I have a feeling nobody would care. Multiplayer TW2002, LORD, Crossroads, and Galactic Empire also drew huge crowds. I’ve been involved with computers since the late 80s. In my opinion there has never been a better culture among geeks/nerds/computer hobiest than the times of the BBS. It was less about fashion and having the latest and most expensive tech and more about what cool tricks you knew how to do.
