Which is better RAF or Private?
ok,
i figured out goign for a Full ATPL will cost me £65,000 and i can do the whole course/they will teach me everything within 2 years.
however, goign through RAF too have its advantages?
how long is the full training period which will help me become a commercial piolt?
Note the RAF will expect you to pay them back by doing some service time.
They are not a cheap way of becoming a commercial pilot.
Besides which you could wind up being shot at by nasty people who wish to end your commercial career before it starts.

How to called or address squadron leader in RAF?
I just visit this RAF site and look at their rank sturcture and it got me wondering about this "squadron leader" rank and I just want to know how would his subordinate have to address. The equivalent of squadron leader in army would be major and I am sure the other have to address him as Major and by his last time, like if his name is Martin then he would have to be called Major Martin. But in RAF how would they have to called him?if he is a Squadron leader then would they called him Squadron leader Martin?That quite long and I know the short form Sqn Ldr but how do we pronounce that?I am not in Military or interested to join them and I am not British or even in Britain but I just saw this rank and I got no problem figuring out other rank like I guess wing commander would be commander smith and so on. But this one "squadron leader" I want to know how people would have to address him ?
In the first person you address a sqn ldr as Sir. In the second or third person you refer to him as Sqn Ldr "Smith". A sqn ldr is equivalent to a major in the army (where the rank comes from). In the army however, where the usage still exists, the rank is Major and sqn ldr is his appointment so in the third person the individual can be reffered to as Major Smith.
Dicko, take it from me that the correct terminology in the army is Squadron Leader. The RAF nomenclature originated from the army. I was in a squadron for enough years to know how to address my Sqn Ldr.
