Fleet Battles
What is the significance in world history of the battle of Tours(732) and the destruction of the Muslim fleet.?

Before the Muslim invasion of Europe, the European political landscape was a checkerboard of many different little states, competing and fighting with each other. It was totally lacking in unity.

The muslim invasion was blocked in the East, by the Orthodox Byzantines, until 1471, and the Fall of Byzantium.

The western side of the invasion, coming up through Southern Spain, then onwards into what would later become France, was a wake-up call for all the petty lords in their way. It forced them to unify, although only briefly, in order to support Charles Martel, King of the Franks, in his desperate and successful bid to stop them.
This brief unity would lead, through the feeling of having a common threat, to the eventual formation of TheHoly Roman Empire, under Charles Martel's grandson, Charlemagne.
This act would place the church in a very controlling position, and cause more than 1000 years of religious narrowmindeness, leading to very many wars.
The end product, to this day, is by religion, Most of Europe and the Muslim world are still at odds, with relatively few muslims living in Europe. The animosity between the groups still lives on.

By geography, The states that made up the Holy Roman Empire, when they broke up, became France, Germany, the Benelux countries, and Italy.

Resistance to religious intolerance and abuse, due to their dominant, controlling position, led to Protestantism and revolutions.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The related naval battles of Barfleur and La Hogue took place between 29 May and 4 June New Style (NS), 1692 (1924 May in the Old Style (OS) Julian calendar then in use in England). The first action took place near Barfleur; later actions were at Cherbourg and SaintVaastlaHougue in the Cotentin peninsula, Normandy, France. It was the decisive naval battle of the Nine Years War, known to the British as the War of the English Succession. In May 1692 the French fleet of 44 ships of the line under the command of the Comte Anne Hilarion de Tourville was preparing to transport an invading army of FrancoIrish troops to restore James II to the English throne. The French victory at the Battle of Beachy Head two years earlier, in June 1690, had opened up the possibility of destroying the allied fleet and landing an invading army. Tourville boldly engaged the 82 strong AngloDutch fleet at Barfleur. After a fierce but indecisive clash, which left many ships on both sides damaged, Tourville was able to disengage. He slipped off into light fog and for several days tried to escape the superior forces. Fleet Tactics and Coastal Combat

Fleet Tactics and Coastal Combat

$50.89

This major revision updates Wayne Hughes's 1986 landmark study that is credited with providing decision makers a sound foundation for battle planning and tactical thinking. The book integrates the historical evolution of tactics, analysis, and fleet operations, and today it can serve as a primer for anyone who wants to learn how navies fight and win. This second edition includes much new material on combat in the missile age and reflects the reconfiguration of many tactics for littoral operations after the fall of the Soviet Union. Hughes recreates famous battles to show how tactics have changed through the ages and the ways in which they have remained unchanged. He covers tactical interaction between land and sea, the sensory revolution of WWII, secret weapons and maritime surprise, the role in battle of leadership and morale, and the importance of surface warships in today's U.S. fleet. He suggests that naval tactics, unlike ground combat, are dominated by the offense and concludes that the great tactical maxim must be attack effectively first. A new chapter traces the evolution of missile tactics at sea and includes details of attacks on ships. Many changes emphasize joint operations and coastal combat. The already extensive appraisal of command and control and information warfare is further expanded to cover modem naval operations and the character of modem salvo warfare. In the tradition of Mahan and Clauswitz, this classic text incorporates literature, politics, and a knowledge of human nature. Indispensable reading for all those interested in naval tactics, it is also a valuable reference for wargamers.

Battle StationsGun Action Ensign Charley Jason, a Reserve officer faces the searing experience of submarine warfare in the Pacific. When a Fleet type submarine went to war in the Pacific it operated mainly on the surface, attacking convoys at night, always heavily escorted as well as single vessels, rescuing downed fliers during intense air battles and shooting up enemy trawlers, junks, fishing boats and sampans. Often it had to fight to rescue downed pilots with the submarine at total risk during such daytime actions. Author: Pearson, Claude M. MC and D2 Fleet Battle in P-2TTL

what was the battle in which an Army (Calvary) actualy captured a fleet?

I was floored at this and wanted some confirmation
This is from "TANKS"

It was actually a battle in the French Revolutionary War, in 1794 French Cavalry crossed the frozen Wadden Zee (part of the former Zuider Zee) to capture the immobilized Dutch Fleet.

  1. However, do note that drone ships don’t work well in large fleet battles. If you get primaried, need to burn away from the enemy fleet, or whatever, waiting for your drones to come back is going to get you blown up. And even if you’re confident that your wallet can take the repeated loss of expensive drones, your drone bay is only so big.

  2. i need it… now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
