Army Colonel Dress

Army dress white uniform?

I was in Army JROTC in high school, and the colonel running the program came to our annual military ball one year dressed in a white uniform. This was one of the sharpest looking military uniforms I have ever seen, better looking than the Navy's officer dress whites even. I have never again seen that Army dress white uniform. Does anyone know anything about it? I ended up joining the Navy instead of the Army, so I didn't learn much about Army uniform regulations.

It has been a few years, but back in the day (1990) it is an alternate (optional) version of the regular dress blue uniform. And authorized for wear whenever the dress blue was worn.

We had one guy who used to wear it all the time. He always stuck out like a sore thumb, but it wasn't against regulations so nobody felt like asking him not to wear it. It was a sharp looking uniform.

The Army White Service Uniform will be withdrawn from wear authorization after July of 2014 according to wikipedia.

James Abercrombie (British Army Colonel)

Colonel James Abercrombie (1732 June 23, 1775) was a British army officer who died during the American Revolutionary War. There is much uncertainty about Abercrombies family. He may have been related to General James Abercrombie, but the Dictionary of Canadian Biography states that the common identification of him as the generals son or nephew is probably erroneous. Abercrombie served in the French and Indian War as a captain in the 42nd Foot and served in the Battle of Fort Carillon under General Abercrombie as one of the generals aides in 1758 before being made aidedecamp to General Amherst in 1759. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1770. At the Battle of Bunker Hill he led the grenadier battalion in their charge of the redoubt on the Americans left wing.
