Stand Up Bass Questions.?

So my friend and I wanna start a physco billy band, and I want to learn to play a stand up bass/upright bass. (Whatever it's "officially" called.)
And I mean play like in the bands Tiger Army and HorrorPops.

1. What is the level of difficulty learning?
2. What would a ~good~ starting bass cost?
- What kinds are good?
3. Should I get lessons or try to learn online?
4. Is there anything I need to know 'bout stand up basses?

Thank you for answering if you do. :]

1. The difficulty level totally depends on how you learn music. Some pick it up quickly, some never "get it." Do you play anything else?

2. All string instruments are priced wildly differently. I would look into buying one from a private seller first. I got mine from an instrument dealer - buys/sells/trades instruments and got a really good deal. Look in the classifieds, ebay, etc. Someone bought one for their kid who ended up quitting two years later. There are lots of makers and brands, many are good. It's all opinion, but for a psychobilly band, you'd want one that is set up well and puts out a lot of sound. (not really high action) Have someone play it for you so you can hear it.
(I like the old Kays for sound - other bassists will probably disagree.)

3. Lessons. Lessons. Definitely lessons. First, you will learn much faster with guidance. Second, you will learn correctly. Third, you will decrease your chance for injuries with the correct technique. (carpal tunnel and tendinitis are not fun.)

4. I'm a professional bass player and teacher. Feel free to email me to ask any more questions. I think this answer is already too long. :)

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A standing army is an army composed of fulltime career soldiers who stand over, in other words, who do not disband during times of peace. They differ from army reserves who are activated only during such times as war or natural disasters. Standing armies tend to be better equipped, better trained, and better prepared for emergencies, defensive deterrence and particularly wars. The army of ancient Rome is considered to have been a standing army during some of the republic period and especially towards the end of the republic following the Marian Reforms in 107BC. Here Marius abolished the old system of raising a citizen army based on property and replaced it with a professional army based on a period of service. This continued into the Roman Empire. Salvation Army Regent Hall Band "Standing on the promises"

Are you a KISS fan that is ready to "Stand Up" for what you believe in?

At the "KISS Army March on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" August 5, 2006 I became known by fans as "The Author of the 11th Comandment". Many opinions are held by fans of the band. I am only interested in hearing from the fans who are positive about this topic. I've heard enough from the negative fans. Let me just say that we all have a right to an opinion and I respect everyones choices in life. Please, if your responce is negative, do not respond to this. I'm not here to have fights over opinions. But the time is now for fans of KISS who believe that it is long over due that the band be Inducted into the RnRHoF to "Stand Up". They have been eligible since 1998. Many bands are passed up by the biased opinons of the Nomination and Induction committees at the Hall. Change is needed in the way the Hall handles Inducting bands. Read my blogs for info on how you can get involved. See my web site: http://www.myspace.com/authorof11thcommandment

Wow! Is it 1977? Who cares?
