british impressment of sailors 1812?
wat was the impressment of sailors in 1812, wat was the story on both the british and american sides?how were they affected?also, was there any way the french reacted to this
sry, i need to rephrase my question, i wanna know WHY impressment was done. i know wat it is
'Impressment' was another word for the draft, or conscription, by which the Brits would force people to join the navy. This wouldn't be like getting a letter from the Queen asking you to join up please; usually soldiers would be taken by force - almost like kidnapping.
It was an issue in the war of 1812 because, just as today, conscripted soldiers would tend to desert. They found much better jobs aboard American merchant vessels. The Brits insisted on the right to board any American vessel to look for deserters; who fit in well because Americans and Brits had not diverged much yet. And if by mistake, the Brits got the 'wrong guy', the Brits didn't really care. (but of course, the Americans did.)

Sailor Moon - All Sailor Scouts Transformations (french)
What was life like in the Texas Rio Grand Valley like during the American Civil War?
During this time in a 100 mile radius it must have been interesting.
There would be two American Armies, Texas Rangers, Two Mexican Armies a French Army and foreign ship, sailors, cotton brokers and blockade runners. It was touched on in a book I read "Lone Star" but there must be some more good stories fact or fiction. If not can someone please write one.
Texas had just recently become a slave state at that time. At the time Texas seceded from the Union, the Union Commander did not want to give the military assets to the Confederacy. Much conflict arose and the South eventually acquired the Union assets.
It was a very interesting active time in the Rio Grand Valley at that time.

Goodness–why the hate? You sound like you never heard of Churchill and Coventry. How ’bout Churchill mowing down the French sailors so their navy wouldn’t fall to Hitler? Now, is that a way to treat an ally? It’s called survival and when Churchill fed women false information about D Day and dropped them behind enemy lines with broken codes to get caught, tortured and killed he did it because the lives of the few for the many. I’m not defending my kettle, but you need to pick up your pot.
