Guards Sergeant
Can you switch from National guard to active duty and enlist as a drill sergeant?
I am a specialist and i know i have enough points to get a time in grade/rank waiver to be a sgt. I am just wondering if I can get it in my contract to be a drill sergeant.
If you are in the National Guard you work for that state. You are not part of the US Army. Now you may have entered the service w/ the NG as active first where you are on kinda a loan to the US Army but you are in a totally different branch. With that said there are always programs that you may be eligible for to switch from one to another. I would check with your Career Planner or Career Counselor whatever you guys got.

Can an E4 Corporal in the Nat'l Guard be promoted to Sergeant 1st Class & he hasn't been to basic training yet?
He's in the Recruitment Sustainment Program and he went in as an E4 he leaves for basic training in May. He claims that he's now a Sergeant 1st Class allowed to have weapons in his home? Does this make sense or is he pulling my leg?
There is NO WAY that could happen. He may be performing the job of an E-7, but there is no way he could get promoted 3 pay grades. Allowed to have weapons at home? Yes he can do that. HIS personal weapons. No government weapons would be allowed.

First and foremost, Danberg and his internal affairs unit need to go!!!! It's obvious after months of hearing about repeated DOC violations that Danberg, et al., are part of the problem, not the solution.
Second, the guards and Sergeant who perpetrated the acts referenced in the signed 42-inmate petition should be placed on administrative leave, pending the “months” it will take to determine what happened. I don't really see the point in using taxpayers' dollars to investigate what we already know will be the outcome though — that is, Danberg, et al., will have determined that all 42 inmates are liars.
Third, I do not understand WHY the U.S. Department of Justice has yet to enter the picture when it is clear that the DOC is in violation of the settlement agreement! How many people need to die before appropriate action is taken?
Fourth, how many more MILLIONS OF DOLLARS in taxpayer funds will be used to clean up the mess that has yet to be corrected by our state government? The deaths of these young men in prison for non-violent, petty crimes is an OUTRAGE against the entire society. The fact that our Governor and state legislature have yet to take DECISIVE ACTION to put an end to these abuses is, in my view, unconscionable!
It would not surprise me that during enrollment in ROTC and simultaneous service in the Guard he is bumped up to SGT. It is no different from Active Duty OCS. Some kids show up straight from OSUT with 13 weeks in service and they get paid E-5 pay because they are in OCS. If he is receiving E-5 pay in his NG unit, he will wear SGT stripes.
