whats the correct way to transport a gun in ohio?
you hear a lot of stories about people in "OHIO" transporting handguns in there vehicles on the way to the shooting range thinking they were following guidelines until they get pulled over and smacked with a felony.
No loaded firearms in a motor vehicle unless you have a Concealed Handgun License. Loaded means ammunition in a magazine that fits the firearm. En Bloc and stripper clips are not considered loaded.
Legal ways to transport unloaded firearms:
(1) In a closed package, box, or case;
(2) In a compartment that can be reached only by leaving the vehicle;
(3) In plain sight and secured in a rack or holder made for the purpose;
(4) If the firearm is at least twenty-four inches in overall length as measured from the muzzle to the part of the stock furthest from the muzzle and if the barrel is at least eighteen inches in length, either in plain sight with the action open or the weapon stripped, or, if the firearm is of a type on which the action will not stay open or which cannot easily be stripped, in plain sight.
No mention of separated ammo.

What are the blank gun laws in Illinois?
I just purchased an 8mm blank pistol. I was wondering what are the laws on these in Cook County. Also I wanted to know if it is legal to shoot in my backyard and what is the law on transporting the gun in a car?
Illinois has some of the most restrictive firearm laws in the United States. Cook County specifically has banned assault weapons and magazines that hold more than ten rounds. it is illegal by state and sometimes federal law to discharge firearms within city limits or incorporated areas. by definition blanked guns have a plug that prevents the gun from discharging blanks. if it can fire blanks its a replica. state laws aren't specific regarding replicas however it is generally discouraged by local law enforcement and the laws regarding real firearms may apply, and WILL apply if you pretend it is a real gun or act as such. For real firearms Illinois requires a FOID (firearms owners identification) this won't apply however transport laws require that a concealable weapon is in a locked container and unloaded.
while not specific it is generally a bad idea and could cause a hassle with local law enforcement.
