Infantryman Advancing

My husband will be deployed in July, I will be in Basic at that time a few questions.?
In July, my husband who is an Infantryman in the Army, will be deployed. I am supposed to go to Basic Training for the Army in August. I actually have a few questions...first, what will happen if while he is deployed he gets injured, will they notify me in Basic? A few more, will we be able to write letters through Basic and Deployment? My husband is all about me joining the army, these are just a few of our worries! Thank you in advance! ![]()
yes you will be contacted if he is injured ro worse.
you will have the opportunity to write although maybe not a lot and it may take a few days to send/receive letters.

US ARMY 19K information?
last tuesday i signed my contract with the army and i am scheduled to go to fort knox for 19K.i went to meps looking for a mechanic job and after meps they said i only qualified for 11X-infantryman or 19K-m1 armor crewman, so on a spur of the moment decision i picked 19K. i think i have made a good choice cause the job looks BA. But i have questions. do you have any advice? anything that the army may have left out? where we tend to get stationed? ho to advance? etc....i noticed one guy said he has been a 19k for 5 years and never been in a tank since osut..is this true for you too? i noticed some guys saying they went stryker, how do i do that? any info will help...thank you for your time. HOOAH
Mobile Gun System Stryker is a 105mm cannon, with 8 wheels, with 3 19K's manning it. I may have not been on the Abrams, but I really like my MGS, and here in Iraq, have shot probably 50 rounds through it just here alone, not counting all the training rounds in gunnery. There are not many MGS's made, and only 3 guys per vehicle...so the demand is not that high. When I am not needed in my MGS, I park it in the motorpool and I go out on patrol as a dismount...playing infantry...not cool especially since I signed up to ride my gear not carry it!
If you have not signed your final contract yet, try to get a choice of duty station, choose alaska if you really want to go stryker, and make sure this is something you really want to do. being combat arms is an honorable thing but you need to realize that you are starting a career at the bottom of the totem pole, you will do alot of menial work, suck it up because everyone has been in your place at one time. respect all those who outrank you and for the love of God, don't smoke dope...(big problem with new guys in my unit a couple years ago)
