Lot Wwii
Can any one tell me what the date and lot codes mean on wwii 40mm bofors shells and projectiles?
While I'm not TOO familiar with WWII armament, I might be able to help. If these are American made shells, the date is the date the shell was manufactured on the assembly line. The lot code refers to the manufacturer, the particular government contract it was being made for, and the location of the plant it was made in.

What are some good WWII biography?
I am 15 years old, and have a VERY good knowledge of all theaters of WWII, how it begun, how it ended, I know the names of of every airplane, tank gun, artillery, generals, etc. I want a good biography of a solider or general during WWII. I would preferably like a biography that focuses on the army/ marines. Not navy, or air force(have read a lot of those). Preferably an American biography of any battle, or the persons entire life.
There is a GREAT double biography called Parallel Journeys, by Eleanor Ayers with Richard Heck and Helen Waterford.
Helen Waterford survived Aushschwitz and emigrated to the US. Heck was raised as a good German, joined the Hitler Youth, and later became the youngest pilot in the Luft Waff (air force.) He also emigrated to Canada and then the US after the war.
In 70's, these two people crossed paths, and began telling about their parallel journeys. The book is amazing.
In my hands : memories of a Holocaust rescuer / Irene Gut Opdyke, with Jennifer Armstrong. This is also excellent.

I agree with Linda when she's discussin Escaping Into the Night. I read this book as my historical fiction WWII book. I have read a lot of WWII historical fiction books and I would rate this high among those. I think that this book shows a lot of the history and turmoil during the time period from a different perspective. Usually, we read about people in a concentration camp, we don't see what ELSE is going on, how ELSE people are going about avoiding Nazis. WHen the two girls went to the farm house and encountered the Nazis I was so enthralled and entrapped with the story. My heart was racing and I couldn't put down the book. This is exactly what the students need to keep reading. I felt like this book would be very beneficial for use in a social studies classroom. I think it's important for teachers to go through the book though to make sure it is historically accurate. There is nothing worse than giving students false information!
