What would prehistoric people think about?
I'm doing a one-page essay about what a prehistoric man could think about, sitting infront of a fire at night. Can anybody please give me any guidelines or examples or anything at all that could help me?
It depends on how prehistoric you are talking. Since he is sitting in front of a fire, we can assume he lives in a society that has mastered fire. If this is the Stone Age, most humans were hunter/gatherers. He would probably be thinking about where to get food tomorrow and worrying about what might eat him tonight (but, since he has fire, he has some excellent protection against predators). He might be wondering if it is safe to eat some berries that he found that he has never seen before. He might be wondering if the herd of animals he saw today will be in the same place tomorrow. He might be thinking that he needs some new knives or arrow heads or spear points so he is planning to hike to where there are good rocks for making stone tools. He might be thinking about trading some of the animal skins his tribe has prepared to people from another tribe for some salt or a dog or a woman. He might be wondering why some of the rocks in his fire are changing into something that is not a rock (perhaps he is discovering bronze).
There are some interesting books written about paleolithic (stone age)people.

Do you think that eating fish,fruit and nuts by prehistoric man increased the brain power and speeded up ....?

And now we could be in negitive evolution as we do not eat so much of these foods anymore.

I think that the extra energy provided by the addition of meat to the diet of early hominids definitely provided the necessary resources that allowed these hominids to support larger and larger brains.
The larger brains, in turn, made the hominids better at devising ways to obtain more high-energy meat for their diets, and so on, in a feedback loop that provided some of the major selective pressures of the hominid lineage.
Although it's controversial (i.e. there is absolutely no physical/fossil evidence to support it), I think that the so called 'aquatic ape' hypothesis is also very compelling. In this hypothesis, a semi-aquatic lifestyle, foraging for shellfish, catching fish, and dabbling for crawdads provided some of the major selective pressures for human evolution.
When you look at critters like sea otters, river otters, and raccoons you can see similar forces at work. It's a life history strategy that rewards intelligence, curiosity, and manual dexterity.
If you compare our diet to other primates, especially chimps, it is the relative importance and abundance of meat in our diet which sets us apart. Chimps eat mainly nuts, fruit, and a few insects. Many other apes and monkeys mainly eat fruit. So it's actually moving away from the fruit and nuts, and eating more burgers and steaks that drove our development of big brains. Looked at from that perspective, it's Vegan diets, rather than McDonald's thats likely to lead us back down the de-evolutionary path.

Well said chuck. If god showed up today and i could meet it face to face, i’d smack him a good one and say, “were the hell you been, clown?” There’s been countless, i repeat, countless generations of goofballs that thought jesus was about to return in their time because of all the bad things going on in then, that was supposedly prophesied in revelations….wars, plagues…etc. Let me do my best duh…..DUH, starting way back with the neanderthals and even farther back, man, prehistoric or modern, has been conquering, capitalizing, fighting, bickering, molesting, adulterating, stealing, Here’s a good one. Start with the teabaggers. They’re claiming to take this country back. Back to when? Before blacks were free and could vote? Before your wives and mothers could vote? Or maybe back to when they ruthlessly robbed and tortured the Indians and took everything they ever had, beginning with jamestown or little rock, take your pick. As Emerson, Lake and Palmer so simply put it….”the pilgrim wandered in, committing EVERY sin, that he could…….so good.” You clowns need to get a grip on life. I’ve got your god….right here. god, what a concept. Almost every single aspect of the church has favored he in command of his so called flock, from the poop, his legion of bishops, cardinals right on down to jimmy swaggert, jim baker, eddie long…..and the list goes on and on and on. Grab a sandwich and do a google. I saw a cute post about a priest in texas that tried to hire a hit on a kid he molested….and got busted. I love it! The response was, “hey, why don’t any of those perverts ever target me, I could use a nice car and some video games.” Some people never learn.
