What is the army doing to train combat arms mos's that aren't infantry to fight as infantry?

I'm planing on joining the army as either a cannon crewmember,Infantry,Or Cavalry Scout. That is what My top 3 choices are because I was told to have more then 1 incase they do not have a job I wan't at meps. But back to the question.I've talked with cannon crewmembers who have been through M.O.U.T.,And even one cannon crewmember who was used as infantry because artillery isn't used much anymore in iraq. And i have friends who have told me cannon crewmember transitions to infantry in iraq half the time unless your with a fire support battery or whatever. But my question is besides basic training what is the army doing to train combat arms soldiers that aren't infantry to fight as infantry?.Don't say they don't exist,In one case I've heard of A tanker going on patrol with a fire team.Any answers are good.
Thanks.

Go Cav Scout (19D). Awsome Job! You'll learn a bit of everything. If you want to know more, ask me, I'll try to help you.

After basic, you'll get more training and more training and more training. Basic is not the end all of what you will learn and get trained in.

question about military units?

I know historically, soldiers have been grouped into infantry, cavalry and artillery, but is this still relevant today to group them into groups as such? are there any other branches besides these three? are tanks considered cavalry today or are they a new grouping (armor)?

Yes, there are other branches other than the ones you mentioned, quite a few more actually. The army groups branches into three categories, Combat arms (Infantry, Armor, etc) Combat Support (Aviation, engineers, etc) and Combat Service Support (Adjutant General, Medical, etc)

As for your other question, yes a tank unit would be branched Armor, however the army does still recognize Cavalry as a sub-branch of Armor.
