What Would Be A Good Way To Become a Military Historian?

I have always been fascinated with History, in particular military history even though there is no chance of me becoming a Soldier in HM Armed Forces because i am fat and asthmatic.

I am a 6th Former currently, studying AS History which is mainly concentrated on Peter the Great of Russia which while good lacks the seeming magic of the era of Napoleon, the wars, the heroes (Nelson, Wellington etc) and its just fascinating.

So how could i go about becoming a Military Historian?
Thank you SveryVolk969, I am actually taking A Level French and I got a high B at GCSE

A BA (Hons) in History might be a good place to start. Military history is a section of history, first and foremost.
By no means all good military historians have been soldiers, and not all have been in good health either.
As Oscar Wilde said "Any fool can make history. It takes a genius to write it".
Unless A Level History has changed beyond recognition, you should have some options on questions. You might be able to wriggle toward Peter's military campaigns against the Turks and Swedes. At the very least, there must be something on his military reforms, work in the Dutch shipyards and so on.
Find an angle that you can exploit. That's part of a historian's skill-set.
Concentrate on getting a good grade and once you get to university, your choices widen beyond recognition.
You may find that the Napoleonic Wars are crowded historical territory.
Or you may write the next Napoleonic textbook twenty years from now.
Don't forget - most history courses require at least one GCSE in a foreign language.
If you're set on Napoleon,I'd recommend French!
The link gives an idea of how much the subject really covers, from the politics that drive military campaigns to the strategy and tactics of conducting them, the logistic and economic demands and the pressures of domestic politics and public opinion.
P.S. When students talk about "reading for a degree",they mean it if they're doing History!
Edit: I've added a link to an undergraduate course that focuses on military history.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Vickers Wellington was a British twinengine, long range medium bomber designed in the mid1930s at Brooklands in Weybridge, Surrey, by VickersArmstrongs Chief Designer, R. K. Pierson. It was widely used as a night bomber in the early years of the Second World War, before being displaced as a bomber by the larger fourengine heavies such as the Avro Lancaster. The Wellington continued to serve throughout the war in other duties, particularly as an antisubmarine aircraft. It was the only British bomber to be produced for the entire duration of the war. The Wellington was popularly known as the Wimpy by service personnel, after J. Wellington Wimpy from the Popeye cartoons and a Wellington B for Bertie had a starring role in the 1942 propaganda film One of Our Aircraft Is Missing. The Wellington was one of two bombers named after Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington (Victor over Napoleon), the other being the Vickers Wellesley. Wellington`s Wars (Hardcover)

Wellington`s Wars (Hardcover)

$62.12

Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington, lives on in popular memory as the "Invincible General," loved by his men, admired by his peers, formidable to his opponents. This incisive book revises such a portrait, offering an accurate—and controversial—new analysis of Wellington`s remarkable military career. Unlike his nemesis Napoleon, Wellington was by no means a man of innate military talent, Huw J. Davies argues. Instead, the key to Wellington`s military success was an exceptionally keen understanding of the relationship between politics and war.Drawing on extensive primary research, Davies discusses Wellington`s military apprenticeship in India, where he learned through mistakes as well as successes how to plan campaigns, organize and use intelligence, and negotiate with allies. In India Wellington encountered the constant political machinations of indigenous powers, and it was there that he apprenticed in the crucial skill of balancing conflicting political priorities. In later campaigns and battles, including the Peninsular War and Waterloo, Wellington`s genius for strategy, operations, and tactics emerged. For his success in the art of war, he came to rely on his art as a politician and tactician. This strikingly original book shows how Wellington made even unlikely victories possible—with a well-honed political brilliance that underpinned all of his military achievements.

Napoleon: Total War - The Peninsular Campaign Official Trailer [HD]

Who can tell me what kind of person Sir Arthur Wellsley(The Duke of Wellington) really was?

I'm looking at anything which can give me true picture of the man as a military tactician and as a human being. The books give me the standard outlook of his military life and family, but what i really want is the interesting stuff i.e. Was he really the emotionless man he's portrayed as in books and films? How much respect did he have for enemy commanders and Napoleon himself? Did he have any skeletons in the closet not many historians know about?(if that's possible!) Are there any quirky anecdotes which would be interesting enough to convince teenagers and young adults to read my work on the him and the Penninsular War?
All your answers are a big help and a majority of the info i didn't know, i only wish others out there had the same passion for Wellington and that era as much as myself. It wouldn't be fair of me to choose a best answer so i'll put it to a vote. Thanks for everything.

I think that you can get a feel of what a person is like from their quotes. Here is a link to Wellington's quotes page. I don't usually recommend Wikipedia, but there is some interesting stuff on the second link. Also another link which I find interesting>
