| | Italian War of 14991504 $73.28 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Second Italian War (14991504), sometimes known as Louis XIIs Italian War or the War over Naples, was the second of the Italian Wars; it was fought primarily by Louis XII of France and Ferdinand I of Spain, with the participation of several Italian powers. In the aftermath of the First Italian War, Louis was determined to press his claim on the thrones of Milan and Naples. In 1499 Louis XII invaded Lombardy and seized Milan, to which he had a claim in right of his paternal grandmother Valentina Visconti. In 1499, Louis concluded an alliance with the Republic of Venice and the Swiss and invaded the Duchy of Milan. Ludovico Sforza, having hired an army of Swiss mercenaries, returned to the city to find it occupied by Gian Giacomo Trivulzio, who had joined the French; Ludovicos army was soon scattered, and he himself imprisoned in France. The Treaty of Trente was signed on October 13, 1501 between Louis and Maximilian of Austria. Based on the terms of the agreement, Austria recognized all French conquests in the northern territories of Italy. | | Italian War of 15211526 $140.19 The Italian War of 152126, sometimes known as the Four Years War, was a part of the Italian Wars. The war pitted Francis I of France and the Republic of Venice against the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, Henry VIII of England, and the Papal States. The conflict arose from animosity over the election of Charles as Emperor in 151920 and from Pope Leo Xs need to ally with Charles against Martin Luther. The war broke out across western Europe late in 1521 when the French invaded Navarre and the Low Countries. Imperial forces overcame the invasion and attacked northern France, where they were stopped in turn. The Pope, the Emperor, and Henry VIII then signed a formal alliance against France, and hostilities began on the Italian peninsula. At the Battle of Bicocca, Imperial and Papal forces defeated the French, driving them from Lombardy. Following the battle, fighting again spilled onto French soil, while Venice made a separate peace. The English invaded France in 1523, while Charles de Bourbon, alienated by Franciss attempts to seize his inheritance, betrayed Francis and allied himself with the Emperor.
