Painted Civil War
Teaching the Civil War with Paint balls?
I am going to be a History teacher & I was considering teaching the
Civil War by allowing the students to do a reinactment using
paint balls or water-balloons. What would I have to do
to get this approved by the school board or would it even be possible?
if this seems a little "too much," what other substance (paper balls, food for a food fight, marshmellows with the use of a Marshmellow Gun etc) could I use instead

this will be a Secondary History Class (i.e. High School) and I would probably use something more like the marshmellow guns or water guns. I will reserve picking the battle for a later time & use this as an activity based around the the battle followed by a lecture
The kids would have so much fun playing war that the lessons of the Civil War would escape them. How can the feel of that war be authentic from water balloons and/or paint guns? This is not a learning experience. This is a play time. One can learn more about the Civil War by acquiring some related programming from The History Channel than from boring textbooks. Or paint guns and water balloons. If I were a school administrator, I would never approve of your ideas. Try another approach (as suggested).
