Plastic Toy Soldiers Civil War
Where can I get toy Civil War soldiers in order to make a diorama for school?
I am proposing to recreate a Civil War battle as a diorama for an advanced art project at my college. I am trying to get a mass quantity of toy soldiers that look realistic...but not those cheap plastic ones, and come in a variety of poses.
Does anyone know where online where I can hook up with a dealer that specializes in toy soldiers?
With a little work, those "toys" can be modified into GREAT figures... especially for a college aged art student such as yourself.
I'm mostly involved in WWII and post WWII figures, but have done a Civil War diorama or two on commission.

Poses can be modified with a razor-saw, glue and putty... swapping and modifying bodyparts.

Toy Soldiers Forever: The way you wear your hat
Miniatures conversion question?
I paint miniature toy soldiers for war games and dioramas. Specifically, I paint figures from the American Civil War.
The figures are plastic. I was just wondering, how might I go about converting some of these figures into casualty figures?
Plastic figures are probably the easiest to convert, since usually a hobby knife or jewelers saw cuts easily through them. Also, heat applied sparingly will allow you to bend the plastic (if you are talking about toy soldiers and not models).
As far as miniature models are concerned, there is probably some kind of information to be found on the Games Workshop website or even Brushthralls.com. Tabletop Gaming News is a pretty good resource for most miniature and table top games, and could point you in the direction of American Civil War modeling and figures (in fact, probably a better source than Games Workshop or Brush Thralls).
Hope that gets you started in a good direction.
