War British Army

Why did the british want to join the army in world war 1?
In world one one, people chose to join the army on thier own free will, what were the reasons for joining. I can only rember 2 : free food and free accomodation
No-one really knew what war was like in WW1. A lot of underage people joined because they thought they were fireproof and raring to get going and do something that sounded cool. It was also because people joined up on their own bat to do their duty to their country, to remain a peaceful and free country. If you someone was directly threatening your country, you would join up and fight. There were quite a few perks as well, as some of these answers have covered. Hope this helps

| | British Army Uniform and Equipment in World War I $117.9 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles British Army uniform and equipment in World War I according to the British official historian Brigadier James Edward Edmonds recorded in 1925, that The British Army of 1914, was the best trained best equipped and best organized British Army ever sent to war. They were the only army to wear any form of a camouflage uniform; the value of drab clothing was quickly recognised by the British Army, who introduced khaki drill for Indian and colonial warfare from the mid19th century on. As part of a series of reforms following the Second Boer War, a darker khaki serge was adopted in 1902, for service dress in Britain itself. On the whole, the British military authorities showed more foresight then their French counterparts, who retained highly visible blue coats and red trousers for active service until several months into World War I. The soldier was issued with the 1908 pattern webbing for carrying personnel equipment and he was armed with the Short Magazine Lee Enfield rifle. | | Lord Methuen and the British Army $299.51 This study analyzes the readiness of the British military establishment for war in 1899 and its performance in the South African War (18991902). It focuses on the career of Field Marshal Paul Sanford, 3rd Baron Methuen, whose traditional military training, used so effectively in Queen Victorias small wars, was put to the test by the modern challenges of the South African War. A subsidiary aim of this work is to correct and refine the historical consensus that Methuens campaing in the South African War was plagued by practical errors and poor judgement. The South African War was a crucial transitional episode in the history of the British army. Unlike Great Britains other expeditions, it required the concentrated resources of the entire empire. It was a modern war in the sense that it employed the technology, the weaponry, the communications, and the transportation of the second industrial revolution. Author: Miller, Stephen M. Afganistan war/ british army?
Why are they there?
Are they making things better?
What do their families think?
What do the solders think?
Supplies equipment and death?
I want honest op-ions as well. Please also give me some good points to argue about because i got a debate Tomorrow thanks
I'm in the British Army, we are there because the government of Afghanistan has asked us to be there because without us the Taliban would take over and things would be ten times worse, are we making things better? in some cases yes and in some no you have to take into account its not all Afghans who are fighting against us foreign fighters come from everywhere in the name of Jihad, families think like all the civilian population they don't want the war, myself personally I think we can win if this government mans up a little and stops worrying about hearts and minds and stops trying to crucify soldiers when they kill Taliban, supplies aren't what the papers say fair enough about the helicopters we could have more but as in terms of personal kit there is no issue civilian newspapers love to print what sells papers and I can tell you first hand the personal equipment is good that is why on tour Americans love to swap their kit for ours and finally death, its sad yes but every soldier there knows he signed on the dotted line and it was his decision and even if he agrees with the war or not matters not, we are professional soldiers who have a job to do and because we are professional we do it regardless of beliefs. So I hope this kind of answered your question.
