| | British Army Uniform and Equipment in World War I $117.9 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles British Army uniform and equipment in World War I according to the British official historian Brigadier James Edward Edmonds recorded in 1925, that The British Army of 1914, was the best trained best equipped and best organized British Army ever sent to war. They were the only army to wear any form of a camouflage uniform; the value of drab clothing was quickly recognised by the British Army, who introduced khaki drill for Indian and colonial warfare from the mid19th century on. As part of a series of reforms following the Second Boer War, a darker khaki serge was adopted in 1902, for service dress in Britain itself. On the whole, the British military authorities showed more foresight then their French counterparts, who retained highly visible blue coats and red trousers for active service until several months into World War I. The soldier was issued with the 1908 pattern webbing for carrying personnel equipment and he was armed with the Short Magazine Lee Enfield rifle. | | The French Army 1914-18 $35.86 Initially the strongest of all the Allied armies, France`s metropolitan and colonial units bore the greatest burden during the first two years of the Great War, and made a great contribution to the final victory. In common with most European countries, the pre-war French Army was based on a system of national military service providing conscripts who could be subject to recall as reservists for several years after. However, the advent of war, the crisis in manpower, and the development of new tactics and weapons brought radical changes. The influence of these factors on the organisation, equipment, uniforms and tactics of the French Army during World War I is examined in detail in this title. |

a) Invasion of Soviet Union:22/06/1941(Russia was part of USSR)
b)how do you define 'strike back' ? you are not clear on this...anyway the first positive strike was the Doolittle raid(psycological) and then the sea battle of Midway ending with the destruction of the Japanese aircraft carriers.
c)British and American invasion of Sicily,June 1943
d) Canada,South Africa,New Zeland,Rhodesia(Nothern,Southern and Malawi)the Egyptian protectorate,Australia(colony) France(throughout the war with its colonies, colonial French and native forces, Belgium and Holand
e) 56 divisions invading Poland and 31 divisions protecting the western border. This army was icreased by 40% in may 1940,to 325 divisions in 1942,fall to 312 in 1943.(US order of battle at its peak inWW2 was 90 divisions...draw your own conclusions...)
f) apart from the Warsaw rising in 1944 and the cynical attitude of the Soviets towards it(stopped their advance on Vistula and let the Germans quence the rising...it was not communist...) I have no other information at hand.

Yes. As volunteers, of course they are not a substitute for a nations army. However, they symbolize the willingness of Americans to pitch in and do the jobs our Government won't do.
