War Standard Bearer

Looking for info on Walter whittle, born around 1898, married doris hocknull and served in both world wars?
Walter and Doris had five children, Olive, Vera, Walter, Alan and Raymond. He served in the Royal Staffordshire Regiment and I know he was a standard bearer for the British Legion. He was also a butler in London during the wars, but I would be very grateful if anyone could give me some details of his service history. I believe he was also involved in the D Day landings and El Alemein
Walter is a tough one to find! The only thing I could come up with is some small info on Doris which you probably already have...

| | Confessions of a Fallen Standard-Bearer (Paperback) $23.55 They are virtual brothers, Arkady and Alyosha, young pioneers in Stalin`s postwar world, marching to the clarion call of socialism, to the stirring beat of the drums. The future, they are assured, is bright and beautiful. But what, then, are those endless miles of barbed wire they encounter everywhere along their route? This is the moving, two-generational tale of two families, those of Yakov Zinger and Pyotr Yevdokimov, fathers of the two young pioneers. Inseparable, the two men have been through the grueling war against the Germans, with all its horror and senseless carnage. Yakov?or Yasha, as he was known?emerged physically intact but scarred forever "from the moment he had been lifted out of a mountain of frozen bodies at a camp in liberated Poland.? Pyotr, a skilled sniper who operated behind the German lines, lost both his legs, not at the hands of the Germans, but as a result of an artillery "mistake" by his own forces. Together, in these postwar, Cold War years, the two families try to piece together their shattered lives. |
| | The Standard Bearer $30.89 The Standard Bearer is one of S.R. Crocketts Covenanting tales and a work that lay close to his heart. Dedicated to the Good and Kindly Folk of my native parish of Balmaghie, the story is set at the turn of the eighteenth century and takes its inspiration from the life of a rebel minister of Galloway. The Rev. John Macmillan was deposed for upholding the ancient Standard the Blue Banner of the Covenant which asserted the rights of the Kirk of Scotland to govern its own affairs. On the loom of Scottish history the author weaves an episode that he himself describes as iron grey and wintry but in which love and vigorously painted Galloway characters form an adventurous and colourful pattern. With an introduction that sets out the historical background and provides an illuminating insight into Crocketts own life and working methods, this new edition restores to print one of his most neglected and tautlyconstructed novels. HAve we run out of movie ideas??? why the same old remakes like Batman?
how many Batman movies have there been in the last 20 years?
Why those movies as opposed to aventures that break new ground..such as ...space adventure movies. Star Wars broke new ground over 30 years ago...and its still the standard bearer in that area. why the lack of creativity?
New and imaginative movies are always welcome, but not everything can be the next Matrix or Star Wars. I'm perfectly happy to see a recycled idea/story if the director is able to add something to what has been done before.
In the case of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan has created something that is much more than a remake. He's taken a familiar story and created something that stands apart from everything that's come before. And by using A list actors, he's dramatically raised the bar for telling that type of story.
I see Christopher Nolan's Batman movies much like the Jason Bourne movies. In both cases, a familiar genera was redefined and done with quality story telling and acting - as well as amazing special effects and/or stunts.
For Lleh: Hopefully the roll out of digital cinema over the next few years will give more small and independent films a chance to be seen in theatres by many more people. Having the film run from a reusable hard drive removes the barrier of paying for 35mm prints at about $1500 each. Along with alternative content like Broadway show and the new 3D technology, digital cinema has the potential to not only redefine the way we watch movies, but to allow us to see things we couldn't in the past.

This was kind of a push poll on ARG's part. First they asked a mess o' questions about the economy, THEN they asked about approval of Bush. I'm sure he'd have been way up at 26 or 27% if they'd just straight out asked in the first place.
But it goes to show. The 1992 Clinton slogan is going to work just as well this time out. It IS the stupid economy, and the economy is going to get nothing but stupider between now and November. AND the GOP standard bearer is on public record declaring that he don't know much about 'conomy.
