Why do Americans claim they won the War in Europe and saved Australia, when the US Troops couldn't keep up?
Its a well known fact here in Australia that our National Guard alone held off the Japs along the Kokoda trail, stopping them just short of Port Moresby. At the time the Australian Imperial Force were kept pushing Germans across Africa and regaining French towns previously lost by the Brittish. Than eventually released to defend their homeland and reinforce what was simply a Militia Force.
The thing that truely amazes me is that, YES the Might of the US Navy saved the South Pacific, however their men on the ground were poorly prepared and could barely keep up with the Australian Offensive pushing the Japs back North. All this offcourse well after the fall of Singapore the so called impenetrable Brittish Fortress. Oh well atleast America come to help, and yes saved the South Pacific, but to say they saved Australia on the ground when they could barely keep up is an blight upon what were the realities of the time.
Our National Guard? Hardly that. Back then, Australia had militia units of poorly equipped and sometimes very briefly trained citizen soldiers. Yet the battalions of the Citizen's Military Forces somehow managed to keep numerically superior units of crack Japanese troops tied up, battered and defeated, destroying Japan's then-unchallenged veneer of invincibility.
Although the American entry into the war was late, initially poorly organized and marred by many early defeats, that's not to say they don't deserve credit for their undoubtedly critical part in the war.
Either way, we're both minor parties in the war compared to the Soviet Union and China. Many Americans are under the delusion that supplying the Soviets with jeeps, trucks and inferior tanks somehow saved them from the Germans. Now these two countries took the real brunt of the war, tied up the majority of German and Japanese forces and suffered the bloodiest battles of the war.

William Pitt, named British secretary of state in 1757, then increased Britain's financial commitment to the war, giving British soldiers and their American colonial allies the resources they needed to defeat the French in battle by 1760. In the Treaty of Paris, signed in 1762, a vanquished France surrendered Canada and all territorial claims east of the Mississippi River to Britain. Britain also won control of Florida, ceded by Spain (a French ally).
