| | Blow $8.39 Rated: RSynopsis: Based on Bruce Porter's biography of the same name, Blow tells the story of real-life drug kingpin George Jung (Johnny Depp), a working-class kid from New England who turned America on to the magic powder that made disco come alive. Echoing the trajectory of a cocaine high, the sunny euphoria of Jung's early days in the 1960s selling pot on Southern California beaches gives way to the manic, teeth-grinding frenzy of his big-scale coke smuggling during the 1970s, when he hooked up with Columbian Pablo Escobar's powerful Medellin cartel. By the mid-'80s, as arrests and betrayals send Jung's billion-dollar empire crashing down, his life becomes one long cocaine hangover. Breezily told, Blow dispenses with major chunks of story through rapid-fire, Goodfellas-like montages as Jung narrates in voice-over; much of the fun comes from checking out Depp's ever-changing array of period costumes and hairdos as the movie hurtles through the decades. Director Ted Demme slows the action down for Jung's periodic visits with his loving but ineffectual father (Ray Liotta) and his shrewish mother (Rachel Griffiths), who salivates over her son's ill-gotten gains, then later turns him in to the police. These scenes with the parents are meant to provide the key to Jung's character: In his marriage to Mirtha -- a Columbian bombshell (Penelope Cruz) who quickly goes from fantasy babe to coke-snorting, money-grubbing harridan -- we witness the reenactment of his family history. But it's never clear how Jung, who seems neither ruthless nor particularly smart, rises so high in a trade dominated by vicious, machine gun-toting drug lords. It's a testimony to Depp's immense appeal as a performer -- his ability to undercut his breathtaking good looks with a self-effacing sweetness -- that he manages to make us care about a character that we never really get a handle on. Blow hammers home its point that crime doesn't pay, but by the end we have so much sympathy for Depp that we almost wish that it did. Kryssa SchemmerlingFollowing the life of cocaine-trafficking pioneer George Jung in a way that recalls Martin Scorsese's Casino, Blow recounts the man's days from his 1950s childhood in Boston to his downfall in the 1980s. George (played by Johnny Depp) begins his life as the son of Fred (Ray Liotta), an earnest breadwinner, and Ermine (Rachel Griffiths), who frequently walks out on them in pursuit of a more fulfilling life. When George moves west to California in the late '60s, accompanied by best pal Tuna (Ethan Suplee), he becomes an entrepreneur in the marijuana business, which soon spreads to the East Coast as well, with girlfriend Barbara (Franka Potente) smuggling the product during her stewardess shifts. George is arrested in 1972 -- at which time Barbara dies of cancer -- but George finds a new ally in Diego (Jordi Molla), who proposes the idea that he become the American conduit for Colombian kingpin Pablo Escobar (Cliff Curtis). George flourishes in t |

| | Blow Out (Criterion Collection) $22.5 Rated: RSynopsis: In the enthralling BLOW OUT, brilliantly crafted by Brian De Palma (Sisters, Carrie, Scarface), John Travolta (Saturday Night Fever, Pulp Fiction) gives one of his greatest performances, as Jack, a movie sound-effects man who believes he has accidentally recorded a political assassination. He enlists the help of Sally (played by Carrieās Nancy Allen), a possible eyewitness to the crime who may be in danger herself, to uncover the truth. With its jolting stylistic flourishes, intricate plot, profoundly felt characterizations, and gritty evocation of early-1980s Philadelphia, BLOW OUT is an American paranoia thriller unlike any other, as well as a devilish reflection on the act of moviemaking. |

Blowout Sale
I had a sales contract on my home pending inspection, can the person pull out and keep earnest?
Can the buyer pull out legally, keeping his earnest money, when the inspection hasn't been completed? Also, he is making another offer though we already have an accepted contract in place. Can someone help me? This is the first time I have sold a home, and my real estate agent blows.
It really depends on the specific wording of the P&S, I'd need to read it myself to give you a specific answer. Was there a time frame on the inspection, whose fault was it that the inspection hasn't happened, etc...?
I'd get more involved with your REA and tell them your a little displeased with their service, and possibly thinking of going elsewhere if they don't step up to the plate and handle this. Not sure what agreement you have with your REA, but if they are not fulfilling their duties you have reason to be concerned.
Having a competent team of professionals on your side, that are genuinely interested in your well being and not just 'making a sale' should be your priority.
Good Luck

I really like it and i like where your going with the story. I think the intro is perfect but it is rather short if you could add to it without losing the intensity of the intro, I would do so. I'm just wondering how the "elf-thing" fits in and if you cold put the finish piece on here that'd be great.
It's a pretty good start i'll say. I'm not going to lie, my opinions are honest and what I feel can help improve your writing skills.
There are some grammatical errors, as i'm sure you could tell if you re read what you wrote. I know sometimes I type a word that I never intentionally thought of writing, it happens.
The first sentence could be worded a little different, but koodos for actually starting a sentence. ( I know to some people writing is a drag.)
Instead of, "Anna's heart raced as she looked into the cold eyes of the man in from her. "
You could say, "Anna's heart raced as she made her way through the thick fog that surrounded her. She lost footing and tripped on a lawn nome, Anna felt a tall gloomy presence behind her, his cold stare stinging her back. She turned around to notice a man with steely grey eyes that held no emotion, and his body completely still….."
Take in that paragraph with more depth, describe to the reader where Anna is. Let the reader know her emotion so we as the reader can connect with Anna, feel what she feels.
Great start though, sounds like a really good story. Practice describing things. Maybe take note of where she is. When I rewrote my version I said she was in fog. So the reader may assume it had just rained, and that because of the fog, Anna tripped, so then when you say she starred into the man's cold stare, it could be her turning around and at last meeting her mom's killer.
Now you don't have to go with what I wrote, I only wrote a quick example.
When it comes to writing my best friend has always been, The Thesaurus. When I write a sentence, I sometimes feel a certain word i'm using can be changed into an even better word, to make that sentence stronger. It really helps, and also helps to build your vocabulary.
So what do I think??
I think it's pretty good so far, i'd like to know what happens next
Practice writing, and read, that will actually help you become a better writer. As I tell a lot of people: "Reading, is the the number one writing itself." Meaning, we're reading writing, with that we're learning what we read. Make sense?
Anyways, good luck on your story and I hope you win
