Giapetto's Woodcarving, Inc. manufactures two types of wooden toys: soldiers and trains. A soldier sells for a $3 profit. A train sells for an $2 profit. The manufacture of wooden soldiers and trains requires two types of skilled labor: carpentry and finishing. A soldier requires 1 hour of carpentry labor and 2 hours of finishing labor. A train requires 1 hour of carpentry labor and 1 hour of finishing labor. Each week, Giapetto can obtain all the needed raw material but only 80 hours of carpentry and 100 hours of finishing department hours. Giapetto wishes to maximize his profit. What is the maximum profit for this problem?

1s + 1t = 80
2s + 1t = 100
Multiply the first equation by -1 and add the equations to solve for s. Substitute it to solve for t.
-1(1s + 1t = 80)
2s + 1t = 100
-1s - 1t = -80
2s + 1t = 100
------------------
s = 20
If s = 20 and s + t = 80, then t = 60
Giapetto should make 20 soldiers and 60 trains. With $3 per soldier and $2 per train, the profit would be 3(20) + 2(60) = 60 + 120 = $180
