What is the Definition of "light Infantry"?
Big Blair said that Marine Infantry was "light infantry". I disagree-Any Infantry Company that has 3 rifle platoons and a weapons platoon with 81 MM and shoulder held (SMAW) mortars is not "light infantry".
'Light Infantry' is infantry that is not equipped with armored vehichles and heavy weapons.

what are the career options for a infantry officer?
when a army captain gets out of the army lets say after 4 years as primarily a infantry platoon/company commander, what are his career options/potential. this person went to ocs so he started out as a 2nd Lt.
im thinking about joining but i think they'll most likely put me in infantry because of the war. im thinking ahead.
Well your only limit is you! How high do you want to shoot for? I mean Ret. Gen. Colin Powell and oh yeah, President Dwight David Eisenhower are some recent examples. They were both infantry officers. One thing is to NOT listen to all the naysayers who will tell you that as a grunt leader you can only be a cop or a Blackwater operative. That's bullshyt. I am a former 16 year infantry career NCO who got hurt in Afghanistan while serving with the 82nd and now work in JAG with the 1st ID. We had 13 infantry officers get out in 2003 when we got back from the 'Stan and they ALL had their stuff together. Here's the roll up from what I remember:
-1 banker
-1 Wall Street investor
-2 went back to school for higher degrees
-2 teachers (high school)
-1 professor
-1 pro surfer in Cali (that's right and he was an ex American Gladiator before the Army, long story)
-1 football coach (high school)
-1 Harley Davidson saleman
- 1 was too wounded to serve and forced to retire, wife works, he stays at home
The other 2 I don't remember....
Anyway, no one way took the typical route and these guys were ALL airborne Ranger qualified, combat vets. Some were ex-enlisted and had more than 10 years of service. More than half were married.
So like I said, the choice is yours. It's up to your level of motivation and dedication. I plan to do so many things and I loved it when people told me I would be a loser or a secruity guard because I was infantry (until a war starts, then they love you.lol)
Last thing: This isn't like previous conflict where LTs are dying within 90 days. The infantry isn't hurting as bad as the other branches. Remember: who do you thing gets all the glory in war? Alot of guys volunteer for combat arms and end up in support jobs. Nobody normally says, "Hey, I went to West Point,home of Patton, put me in the messhall with the cooks. Screw driving a tank and being gung-ho! I'll do 20 years flipping eggs and my grandkids will be so proud!" lol.
