Paratroopers British Partcipating in the air cadets help me in future?
When i am older, i am aiming to become a paratrooper for the British parachute regiment. I'm age 15, and have been offered to become a member in the air cadets (family friend is an officer).
You learn to fly, shoot and do obstacle courses etc. Would having experince with the cadets help me become a paratrooper from skills to qualification?
the parachute regiment have their own units within the army cadets and where ever possible it would be better for you to get into one of them, (usually they are attached to TA units of the paras or in para garrison towns around the country)
if there isn't a local one then join an army cadet unit, not an air cadet as as least in the army your learn army type things such as rank unit organisation and of course basic military skills.
personally i found many of the things i learnt in the cadets were not really all that when it came to the real thing, the only thing i was glad to have learnt from the cadets was the taking care of your kit and bunk ready for inspection, as if you go on the yearly two week exercise with the cadets your be housed on an army base and will live soldiering 24/7 for those 14 days and this includes the morning barrack inspection, and your kit and bunk had better be perfect because being 15 is not going to protect you from a beasting if you get it wrong.
The roots of the Paratroopers Brigade go back to World War II. About 240 volunteers from the preState Jewish settlements in Eretz Israel were trained by the British army to operate in occupied Europe to try to rescue Jews from the clutches of the Nazis. Hanna Senesh (Szenes) was one of 7 paratroopers who did not return from this mission. The Paratroopers Brigade in the IDF was established in June 1948 during the War of Independence. The first operational combat parachute drop was the jump to the Mitle Pass during the 1956 Sinai Campaign during which the Paratroopers captured the Suez Canal. The first commander of the Paratroopers Brigade was Ariel Sharon. Established as an elite infantry force the Paratroopers have a history of carrying out special forcesstyle missions. In the Six Day War (1967) the Paratroopers fought on three fronts. Mordechai (Mota) Gur commanded the unit that liberated the Old City of Jerusalem; troops under the command of Raphael Eitan captured the Gaza Strip and were the first to reach the Suez Canal; and Dani Matt s paratroopers captured the Golan Heights on the last day of the war. In 1976 they were part of the unit that rescued hijacked passengers in Entebbe Uganda in a daring raid on the Entebbe Airport. In recent years they have been involved primarily in counter terror operations within the West Bank. I am nearly 14 and would like to join the British Paratroopers when I am older. At the moment I can run the 1.5 mile in under 9:30, can do about 40 push ups and 50 situps in a minute. Can someone please give me advice on ways to physically prepare? I know about P Company and the tabbing but I am not very good at tabbing.
You are only 14 but already your run time is very good for your age. If you keep up your aerobic fitness (aerobic is for running etc) you should be fine and you will find you will be faster at 16.
You seem to have your head screwed on proper so I will give you this tip, but remember you are only 14 and your body isn't yet fully grown. You should adjust any exercise routine down a little. There is no shame on it whatsoever you are already a fit lad, but think of it this way - if you get injured you cannot train and that will set you back a lot. Here is the tip:
You could benifet from a little core strength building. This will help you with your tabbing issues and help you lift the wieght required for selection.
