Soldiers Book Question about the book "Soldiers Heart", by Gary Paulson.?
What would you say would be the funniest, happiest, saddest, and most unbelievable parts of the book? Please be detailed.
I can only answer to one of the things becasue I just can't remeber it that well. Sorry!
The most unbelieveable part was the battles. I know that's general, but it put the Civil War into perspective for me. I find the Civil War exciting, but how the battles were explained showed me the hardships of it all. The battle parts left me breathless and shocked, and gave me a huge amount of pity for any soldier in any war. But by far the Civil War was the worst because it was against your own "neighbor".

An oral history of the last European campaigns of the Second World War, from the landings at Normandy to the final surrender of the Axis powers. Ambrose, who has already chronicled the Second World War in UNDAUNTED COURAGE and D_DAY, concentrates on the experiences of the ordinary soldier in the ranks, and makes use of hundreds of interviews conducted over several years of research. A New York Times Notable Book for 1998.
This is a book of interventions for various emotional problems common to soldiers, i.e., homesickness, depression, anxiety, anger, etc. It was written for the soldier who will not go for help for fear it will harm their career. It is also meant to provide assistance when there is none, due to shortages or distant locations of support personnel. In July 2004 the New England Journal of Medicine examined mental health problems among 3671 soldiers and Marines three to four months after their return from Afghanistan or Irag. Up to 17 of these soldiers screened positive for major depression, generalized anxiety or PTSD. Of these 17, only 23 sought treatment. This would make a great gift to give to your favorite hero. In the preface to this 1859 book Harriet Martineau (1802 1876) tells the reader that this is not a work of invention or a fancypiece and thereby sets the tone for a study that is partly historical and partly sociological. In the writing of the book, Martineau collaborated with another prominent nineteenthcentury figure, Florence Nightingale. They wished to gain political support for improvements in military hygiene and health care. Martineau draws on Nightingales experiences when nursing wounded soldiers during the Crimean War and builds it into a strong narrative that describes the conditions that soldiers experienced in the barracks, in hospitals and on the field, making practical recommendations as to how to improve these areas, by legislation if necessary, so as to ensure the future good health of Britains armed forces.
