Fess Parker an American icon, passed away this March at age 85. His portrayal of frontiersmen Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone impacted millions. Fess went to S. Vietnam in December 1970 on a USO tour in this photo.
Fess Parker, who died last week, played the frontiersman Davy Crockett on TV. The show proved to be a retailing bonanza in its day, worth, by one estimate, $100 million.
You might be refering to John Rae who was dubbed as such by a biographer but truly Alex MacKenzie better takes the title in the length and breadth of his exploration.

I think it should happen. Maybe Fatal Passage is like a pebble in a pond and it will start to ripple outwards. Certainly I think I make the case and it has large-scale implications and ramifications for the way we view our history, undoubtedly. I mean, to me the story of Franklin is subsidiary to the story of John Rae and why have we been, for so long, virtually celebrating this disaster — incompetence and disaster — when we could be celebrating excellence and achievement. Davy Crockett would be sickened by the liberal agenda Roy Herron will support if elected. I think Stephen Fincher has a lot more in common with frontiersman Davy Crockett than fancy boy Roy Herron.
