| | British Commandos $111.53 The British Commandos were first formed by the British Army during World War II in June 1940, as a wellarmed but nonregimental raider force employing unconventional and irregular tactics to assault, disrupt and reconnoitre the enemy in mainland Europe and Scandinavia. Four current units of the UK Armed Forces, the Royal Marines Commandos, the Parachute Regiment, the Special Air Service and the Special Boat Service all share this same origin. Initially raids were typically made by comparatively small numbers, of short duration and at night, later growing in complexity and size. The Commandos were formed and operated in secrecy and produced a demoralising effect on German coastal forces while achieving celebrity status among the British public, comparable with that attached to fighter pilots and shrouded in myth. British infantry and royal marine tribute
How many infantry soldiers are there in the British forces?
including paras, marines and RAF gunners.
There are 37 regular infantry battalions, with each battalion having a full compliment of around 600 soldiers, and the Guards battalions having three extra companies.
Nijmegen Company The Grenadier Guards
7 Company The Coldstream Guards
F Company The Scots Guards
I would estimate that there would certainly be at least 22,500 in the British Army.

On top of this there are around 7,500 Royal Marines, as well as the RAF Regiment which has approximately 2,000 regular airmen (i.e. Other Ranks), 300 regular officers, and 500 reservists.
Add the figure of nearly 10,000 that the regular Marines and RAF regiment have between them to the 22,500 in the British Army and you have a figure of over 32,000.
If you included the TA, Royal Marines Reserves and RAF Regiment Regiment you can probably add 9,000 to this figure. The TA having (14 Infantry Battalions), RMR (600 Marines) and RAF Regiment Reserve (500 Reservists).
Giving a total figure of over 40,000.
