can an australian ciutizen join the USAF or the RAF without having an american citizenship?
this is just a query
i dont want to live in america all my life or anything like that this is only if i my application gets rejected in the RAAF can i join the USAF or the RAF to become a pilot being only an australian citizen
An Australian can join the RAF and still keep his Australian citizenship, but to join the USAF you would have to change your nationality. A number of "Fleet Air Arm" Australians joined the RAAF while others transferred to the British Navy to fly on their aircraft carriers following the de-commissioning of the HMAS Sydney and the HMAS Melbourne in the mid-1970's.

| | Raaf Williams $76.47 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles RAAF Williams comprises the two bases of Point Cook and Laverton. Both establishments previously existed as separate RAAF Bases until 1999 when they were amalgamated to form RAAF Williams. The name was chosen in honour of Air Marshal Sir Richard Williams, the father of the Royal Australian Air Force.Point Cook was purchased by the government in 1912 with the vision to form what would become the Australian Flying Corps. Due to the success of the AFC in the First World War, the AFC became a separate service, the Royal Australian Air Force. Point Cook remained the RAAFs only base until 1925 when RAAF Base Richmond and RAAF Base Laverton were also built. Point Cook is considered the birthplace and the spiritual home of the RAAF. It is also the airport at which the Royal Victorian Aero Club was established. It contains a memorial parade ground which was built in the 1920s, a site which was previously used by the AFC for drill training. Point Cook still has an operating airfield, but military operations are generally restricted to the Museum based there. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. | | Ranks of the Raaf $78.07 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Royal Australian Air Force inherited its rank structure from the Royal Air Force. The RAF based its officer ranks on the Royal Navy, and its airmen ranks on the British Army. Unlike the RAF, RAAF rank abbreviations are always written in uppercase without spaces (eg. PLTOFF, not Plt Off). Also, the RAAF does not have the ranks of Senior Aircraftman, Junior Technician, Chief Technician or Master Aircrew. Rank Insignia is very similar to that of the RAF, with the exception of LAC/W (which is one chevron (two bladed propellor in RAF)). Both officers and airmen wear rank on the shoulder, however it is worn on the sleeve of the ceremonial jacket (lower sleeve for officers, upper sleeve for airmen). The word Australia appears immediately below all rank insignia worn on the shoulder. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. | | Toys and Models AT6G Texan Silver USAF $219.83 The AT6 Texan advanced trainer built by North American is one of the most widely used aircraft in history. Also known as the pilot maker 15 495 Texans were built between 1938 and 1945. The U.S.A.A.F. procured 10 057 AT6 s; others went to the Navy as SNJ s and to more than 30 Allied nations. Most AAF fighter pilots trained in AT6 s prior to graduation from flying school. Many of the Spitfire and Hurricane pilots in the Battle of Britain trained in Canada in Harvards the British version of the AT6. To comply with neutrality laws U.S. built Harvards were flown north to the border and were pushed across. In 1948 Texans still in USAF service were redesignated as T6 s. To meet an urgent need for close air support of ground forces in the Korean Conflict T6 s flew mosquito missions spotting enemy troops and guns and marking them with smoke rockets for attack by fighterbombers. More than 360 T6 s are still flying. |

| | F104 Starfighter Pilots Flight Operating Instructions $31.68 Created by famed Lockheed designer Kelly Johnson, the F104 Starfighter was designed to compete with Soviet Mig15s. Equipped with a huge and powerful J79 engine, the aircraft could reach speeds well in excess of Mach 2.0, while its thin, trapezoidal wing provided extremely low drag with terrific acceleration and rate of climb. Unforgiving and sensitive to control inputs, the F104 killed many pilots and developed a reputation as a widowmaker. Despite its shortcomings, the Starfighter enjoyed a long career. It flew in the air support role during Rolling Thunder in the Vietnam War. It also saw extensive service in foreign air forces and NATO. NASA continued to use the F104 as a support aircraft until 1995. This pilots flight operating handbook was originally produced by the USAF. It has been slightly reformatted but is reproduced here in its entirety. It provides a fascinating view inside the cockpit of one of historys great planes. Royal Australian Air Force Fighter Pilot Matt Hall at Red Bull Air Race in Perth
Private Commercial Pilot training or Join the airforce (RAAF/RAF/USAF)? Which is better?
I live in Perth WA, i'm 16 years old and i have just finished High school, i'm looking for a career in the aviation industry, i.e. i want to be a pilot. In an ideal world i'd love to dive in and train to fly an A320 or a B737 but obviously i know it really doesn't work like that.
I've looked at joining the air force but i'm not overly keen on signing away my life for 10 years, especially if its as horrid as i've heard. I'm not looking to become a fighter pilot, i'd much rather fly some of the bigger aircraft, a Hercules for example.
Another option is to do it privately'd much prefer but, it does cost about A$60,000 over about 2 years and the wage is much higher ($250,000 a year for a well established pilot) But it does cost a lot and the training isn't going to be of as much of a good standard.
Which route would be the best one?
Thanks and 10pts best answer.
I don't know where you are getting your numbers from, but most senior pilot captains earn around $100K a year, not $250K, and that's only after 20 years of service with the company.
If you want to go Air Force, then you'll need a four-year college degree before you could be considered to compete for one of less than 500 active duty pilot positions available every year in the USAF. They only accept the very best of the best.
If you want to go the civilian route, you could start your training right now, and get your private pilot's certificate on your 17th birthday. Then you would have four more years to complete instrument, commercial and multi-engine training before you can get a commercial pilot's license at age 21, and start working your way up the long slow ladder to the left seat of a commercial air liner.
Good Luck!
