West Ranch House
Is an 783 sq foot apartment considered large for a rental?
I am sitting here dreaming about houses LOL I know I can't afford one so I looked online anyone at listings cause I'm just curious and a window shopper. I find that a majority of houses around this neighborhood (which is a Very classy neighborhood, on the west side of a suburban city) are 3br 2bath and about 1500-1600 sq feet.. and I'm like. Wow, my apartment is sort of comparable haha It's one bedroom and 783 sq feet. Is that considered roomie or normal? I'm finding myself feeling not so "stuck" in an apartment since I put it in perspective.
I wanna hear from people in other parts of the country besides Texas.

I also want to know if it's worth it to buy a house, or if renting for a while is ok too and what the pros and cons are.
I think a lot of it has to do with how many bedrooms you have. If you live in an 800 sq ft 1-2 bedroom apartment I would consider that average to roomie. I live in a 4 bedroom 1600 sq ft home and initially I thought it was roomie, but after awhile your home shrinks as you get use to it. I am currently looking for a 4-5 bedroom house that is 2500-3000 sq ft; and I consider that roomie

What size air conditioner should I get?
I’m looking at having an AC installed in my house and was wondering what size AC I should expect to get quoted on when the guys come out. The house is an 1800sf ranch with a basement and currently has central heating and is ready for the AC. The furnace is in an efficient location in terms of distances of the ducts to each room. Additionally, the furnace is located roughly 4 feet off the foundation wall, so again, I think it’s in an efficient spot. The house faces west and has three 72” x 36” windows on the front that face west also. The entrance door also faces west and does not have any windows. The ceilings are at 9’ with the exception of the great room which has a cathedral that peaks at roughly 14’. I have an energy cal somewhere but cannot locate at it as of now. Any information will be helpful. Oh, any idea on what something like this might cost?
I'm not really sure about the exact size you need for your home. They always say that too small is not enough and going too big is overkill and just as much as a mistake. I would call around and get at least 3 reputable companies to come out and give you an estimate. Estimates are FREE. They will tell you what size is best for your house. Make sure the unit is energy star rated. Also, I just installed a power attic gable vent. Power roof vents are better but they are harder to install. My vent fan runs a lot but take my word for it it saves me a heap of money just because it keeps my HVAC units from running as much. The fan motor is no bigger than a typical portable box fan. Getting that hot air out of my attic saves me a heap of money. You can expect to pay 3-5k for a whole house package unit heat pump. But if it's just AC alone probably around half of that.
