Dido and Terrorism- Would William Approve?
The Irish are a funny bunch. It was very disturbing that they played it safe during the Holocaust and it is also very disturbing that in some respects they tend to melodramatise their role as martyrs and saints.
Dido`s alleged support of IRA terrorism would undoubtedly be resisted by her father, William Armstrong.
William was publisher of my books about Marilyn Monroe and John Lennon. He was liberal in the best sense of the word. He took on the Marilyn book at a time when her murder was still being mooted and when the book was considered a slap in the face of American authoritarianism.
Since then I`ve been badmouthed and mimicked in films by Candice Bergen and the like; but the attitude of liberals in Britain remains supportive.
Happily William has now passed away and won`t have to cope with Dido`s shenanigans.
Dido's music is terrorism in itself...'nuff said.
