At 9am, an ingot of cast iron with temperature 20 C is placed in a 1500 C furnace. Ten minutes later, analysis of the colour of the glowing ingot reveals it has reached 950 C. Using Newton’s Law of Cooling, determine the time at which the ingot will reach its melting point of 1260 C .

dT/dt+kT=1500k

T=ce^(-kt)+1500
20=ce^(-k*0)+1500

c= -1480

950=-1480e^(-k*10)+1500

k=ln(148/55)/10=.098988

1260=-1480e^(-.098988*t)+1500

t=18.3776 min

at 9:18 :23 AM it will reach is melting point
