Hopi Kachina dolls - artists information?
I purchased a Kachina (from a reputable and licensed Indian Trader of Kachinas and Artifacts) and the bottom of the wood block base has the artists name, and a number. I was told this number is like a Social Security number and the dealer called it something else.. like a tribal number???
I searched everywhere I can think of on the net, and now I ask for other tips for websites that can tell me where i would find this info.
Unfortunately, the artist only put his/her last name, Begay, and that is a very common name. The "tribal number" (or whatever that number is called) is 403211
By the way, in case you are curious, it is the Bear and it has leather and fur over the carved wood figure. Quite beautiful.
Thanks for any help.
First answerer- actually you helped a little. I googled around and found that I probably have a Navajo Kachina, or katsina, doll. The furr and other features are not similar to the Hopi way of making their dolls. Thanks for the extra boost.
it is a BIA number. Bureau of Indian Affairs.
but i doubt that you could track him through them. you would almost have to go back to the same area and hope to find him.

Drying Nahual Figures at the Wood Carving Workshop of Jacobo and Maria Angeles Ojeda
The bonfire I started on Earth Day is finally out,is there a site out there to help me figure the CO2 output?
Or does someone on here know how to calculate it,based on perhaps the number of tons of wood perhaps?
Did you rub two environuts together to start it? If so, you get a carbon credit for NOT using a torch....

here are a couple of ideas for a base. since it is star wars, you can recreate the ice planet hoth battle scene by using pieces of white styrofoam that's used in electronics packaging as the rebel base. you can use wisps of baby blue spray paint to make the base look like ice. don't spray it too heavy cause it will melt the styrofoam. you can use foam core aka foam board (hobby lobby, wal-mart) to make walls, doors, bridges or whatever. you will want to cut this using a straight edge and an x-acto knife to give it a clean look. you can then piece it all together with a glue gun. use a glue gun with a low setting to not melt the stryrofoam. if you want to make the base into something different then just use other colors like gray for a space ship or green for the forest or a tan color for the desert. latex paint is also good to use. keep in mind that you can use things from model train sets like the fake grass, shrubbery, rocks. these can also be found at a craft store like hobby lobby or michael's.
