Metal Casting Ingots

Is there any benefit for casting ingots to sell to scrap yards?
If I cast my own aluminum ingots (4-5 lbs) from soda cans, will recycling/scrapping centers still accept it? If so, will they offer more money for being in a more raw form? Would I be able to cast copper and bronze ingots as well as other metals?
If the aluminum is still in 'can' form, the yard can tell what it is and pay you the full value. If you melt it down, they have no easy way to tell what it is for sure, and you may only get paid 'pot metal' rates (1/10 or less of aluminum rates). I think re-melting it will end up costing you, both in energy and in reimbursement - don't do it.

| | Vacuum Casting $66.91 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Vacuum casting is a means of casting small metal parts or jewelry that have fine detail or for casting various plastic materials. A porous or vented mold is used and is placed on a table or container where vacuum is applied. The liquid to be cast will be driven into the mold by atmospheric pressure, while the vacuum will also remove trapped air that would otherwise impede the free flow of the liquid casting material. Vacuum casting is applied as an alternative to centrifugal casting of metals which is used in similar situations. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. | | Sand Casting $78.07 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Sand casting, also known as sand molded casting, is a metal casting process characterized by using sand as the mold material. It is relatively cheap and sufficiently refractory even for steel foundry use. A suitable bonding agent (usually clay) is mixed or occurs with the sand. The mixture is moistened with water to develop strength and plasticity of the clay and to make the aggregate suitable for molding. The term sand casting can also refer to a casting produced via the sand casting process. Sand castings are produced in specialized factories called foundries. | | Spin Casting $79.66 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Spin casting, also known as centrifugal rubber mold casting (CRMC), is a method of utilizing centrifugal force to produce castings from a rubber mold. Typically, a discshaped mold is spun along its central axis at a set speed. The casting material, usually molten metal or liquid thermoset plastic is then poured in through an opening at the topcenter of the mold. The filled mold then continues to spin as the metal solidifies or the thermoset plastic sets. The two defining characteristics of spin casting are semipermanent (nonexpendable) rubber molds and the use of centrifugal force. These make the process relatively unique compared to machined diebased and expendable mold casting methods. These qualities also encourage operators to use casting materials specially formulated for low melting points and viscosities. Most spin casting is done with pewter and zinc alloys or thermoset plastics. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. | | Pattern (Casting) $71.7 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles In casting, a pattern is a replica of the object to be cast, used to prepare the cavity into which molten material will be poured during the casting process.Patterns used in sand casting may be made of wood, metal, plastics or other materials. Patterns are made to exacting standards of construction, so that they can last for a reasonable length of time, according to the quality grade of the pattern being built, and so that they will repeatably provide a dimensionally acceptable casting. Under certain circumstances an original item may be adapted to be used as a pattern. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Home backyard foundry - Metal Casting: Copper Ingot
How to store radioactive material in domestic setting?
I have recently purchased a material with a sizable radiation output. I have a disk cast ingot of both bismuth and lead, roughly 32g each. I do not plan on melting any of them because they are part of my rare metal collection. I would like to know how I can safely store my radioactive metal in my home without exposing myself to harmful amounts of radiation. I only have 5g of the metal so it is not very large in size.
In addition, the element is Uranium by the way
Lead isn't rare [neither is bismuth, come to think of it], but it is a good shield for radiation... don't melt your precious 32g disk of lead... go to the bait shop and buy a few kilos of lead sinkers, and melt them down to make a lead box for your 5 grams of plutonium.... also make yourself a pair of undies out of the lead to wear while your handling it or your tadpoles will mutate!
Naturally make sure you comply with all local, state, and federal laws regarding radioactive stuff
