Painted Miniatures
Beginning a hobby in miniature wargaming?
I need some suggestions. I'm looking for WW2 miniatures and need help deciding in brand and scale. I'm also looking for a place to learn about building terrain and painting miniatures.(workshop, online instructions, videos) I have a local gaming store, but i think its akward to say i'm just looking, and ask for suggestions in what to buy.(i am a regular though) Any suggestions and if you happen to know the prices at the Last Grenadier in Burbank that would be cool. I'm looking to occupy some time not become a wargamer so the less pricy the better.
The web site HMGS.org will be a great place to start your web search. There are regional wargame collections all over the place and alot of my start up stuff came from the flea markets that the conventions support. HMGS just had their summer convention last week in Pennsylvania Lots of good material available on Ebay if you sort thru the fluff. The tutorials available online for painting tips are actually right on the money, but you certainly have to read 2 or 3 to get the idea that everyone is using the same technique. Seriously though, by a SMALL number of professionally painted figs first so you can see what you are striving to mimic first hand.
Finally, the best question to probably ask is-what rules set should I use- rules sets require certain amount of game space, so ask the store that question first, then all the others will fall in line in my opinion. Good luck

How do i Highlight a miniature that is painted black do i use a darker color?
I'm not sure what to do should i prime the model black then paint it white and add a light grey to highlight?
Dry brush it using a shade of grey two shades lighter than black.

Am I seriously supposed to care about who’s girlfriend/wife/whatev is being dragged to my dorktopia? I don’t. I never did. I can’t bring myself to.
