| | Chinese Palaces $78.07 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Chinese Palaces are some of the most elaborate structures that have ever been constructed. There is a long history of imperial rule in China, and the palaces were the sites where the royal court resided, as well as many government bureaucrats and functionaries. The English word palace is used to translate the Chinese word (pronounced gng in Mandarin). This character represents two rooms connected (), under a roof (). Originally the character applied to any residence or mansion, but starting with the Qin Dynasty (3rd century Be it was used only for the residence of the emperor and members of the imperial family. Chinese palaces are different from postRenaissance European palaces because they do not consist of a single building only. Instead, Chinese palaces are huge spaces surrounded by one or more walls and moats and containing large separated halls ( din) for ceremonies and official business, as well as smaller buildings, temples, towers, residences, galleries, courtyards, gardens, and outbuildings, more like the Roman or Carolingian palatium. Catherine's Palace Pushkin Russia
in russia?
in russia, can you go INTO any of the palaces? like the alexander, catherine, peterhof...? if so around how much would it cost to go in july from chicago, illinois?
First off, the winter palace and the hermitage are two SEPARATE PLACES---I've been to both... second... we even went on a tour of a RUSSIAN PRISON in St. petersburg, The Winter Palace is absolutely beautiful inside... it looks as if all the money in the area was put into that PALACE and the rest of the area is rather run down. BUT the cathedrals are gorgeous and the hermitage is a beautiful museum with MANY MANY interesting things to see....food is a little different and VERY few places to get WESTERN STYLE meals (in St. Petersburg) unless you go to the NEWER hotels... We stayed at the Hotel Oktenskya (I know it's not spelled correctly but it's PHONETICALLY correct)... which is directly on the Niva River.. Beautiful hotel with a nice steak or chicken dinner in the hotel restaurant and bar.... Water is scarce there and you cannot drink out of the taps... but bottled water and COCA-COLA (coke) is available along with an extremely AWFUL tasting bottled mineral water... As far as what it costs... I'd say at LEAST $2500 per person from Chicago (hotel and air fare)... Watch out if you take the Russian Airline---AEROFLOT...... the planes are OLD, noisey, NO ENTERTAINMENT or headphones...and a 11 -14 hours flight. We stopped in Newfoundland on our way there and Ireland on our way back from St. Petersburg.... Watch out for the outdoor marketplaces... they are the ONLY places we ever saw CHILDREN on our entire trip---and they all were begging for money.... I felt really bad for the children... The big park near our hotel had NO swings or ANYTHING for any children to play on...
