Is the quality of soldiers in decline?
My question is to soldiers in the Army currently. (Its the branch im in so its the one i have experience with) but anyone can feel free to chime in

I am only a SPC but i have been in 4 years and we are getting in new soldiers who wont stand at parade rest for NCO's, Who will talk back and have an attitude when you are trying to help, We had a new soldier come into my unit and this soldier's first words to the Platoon sergeant where" Whats Up man?" another soldier cant seem to grasp the fact his uniform should be worn with pride and always is messed up and sloppy looking
I think that the army is lowering its standards WAY to much and it will in the end cause the army to suffer and may cause people their lives with the lackadasical attitude soldiers have coming from basic.

I agree. They're pushing out lower quality recruits day in and day out and sending them downrange. It's not hard to see the trend; I've got friends who've gone to USAREC or to Drill and tell me what kind of restrictions they work under. It is all about numbers. Quality has become a non-issue.
Recruits get babied. In TRADOC, you can't even use profanity on a recruit anymore. The restrictions are ridiculous. PT failures are passed along from step to step until they become a deploying unit's problem. No one wants to do the paperwork to chapter out a douchebag so they keep on staying in. Hardly anyone wants to do the right thing and write the negative NCOER to keep the douchebag E-6 from being selected for the E-7 board. Hardly anyone wants to do the right thing and boot the kid who has several Field Grade Article 15s under his belt out of the service. "Rehabilitative Transfer". Right.
It's all about how the command atmosphere is, and I'm sorry to say, the Army policy has completely lost touch with reality. It is upto units downrange to do the right thing and do whatever it takes. The abdication of responsibility is criminal, in expecting leaders to sort bad apples out when you have EO/IG/15-6s threatened on you, but the alternative is worse. Use the E-4 mafia if you have to. Scuff the douchebags up. So they go AWOL? Big deal. You have to be tough, or your unit goes down the gutter. I'd say it's a combination of insufficient training initiative by leadership and insufficient application of disincentives for bad behavior (taking away weekends, extra duty) that's letting the douchebags run amok where you're at. Laziness is the prime cause of bad behavior. Take all their time away from them and RETEACH them Soldiering. See what the results are.
And it sounds like your unit has gone completely down the gutter and your NCOs are afraid to do wall-to-wall counseling or to do any scuffing up whatsoever. Maybe they're all weak on PT and leadership skills, who knows. It's a leadership failure. Douchebags need to be regulated, or kicked out.
And those respondents who say there is no problem? You all have no connection to reality whatsoever. I wouldn't say anything if I were you. Why pretend to be completely ignorant when you can open your mouth and remove all doubt, right?
Low standards are a two-way street. You have to condone them for the problem to persist. If the Army standard is unreasonably low and prevents you from doing what is right, exceed the Army standard. By a lot.
