Private Ryan

In the movie Saving Private Ryan when the Sarge is shooting the tank with the pistol does he destroy?
Is it the Sarge that blows the tank up of the bombers that fly over head? I find it nearly impossible to blow up a tank with a pistol. Even, if he killed the tank driver it wouldn't blow up from a pistol round.
The bomber got the tank.
Duh.

The book, Lola? What book? The screenplay was written by Robert Rodat. There is no book mentioned in the writing credits at all.

Anyhow, I thought that the scene with the Captain and the Sergeant reminiscing in the bombed out building about "What's his name? That kid in North Africa?" was pretty good. I hated that opening combat scene. 25 minutes of fake blood and CGI-generated tripe.
In fact, I thought that the whole thing was one over-long war film that was just OK... nothing special at all. The HBO series "Band of Brothers" was SO much better, but then, it was almost 13 hours long!

Maybe this doesn't qualify as “thought police”, maybe it does:
Tonight, Veteran's Day, ABC is broadcasting Saving Private Ryan — uncut, unedited for language, per contractual obligation. Many of their affiliates are refusing to show it because they are afraid the FCC will take their licenses away, based on the Bono decision, where the FCC, under pressure from Congress, ruled that the context of offensive language cannot be used to exempt a station from punishment. Several stations requested a waiver from the FCC for this movie, but the FCC isn't in the waiver business.
In fact, previous brodacasts of Saving Private Ryan have been greeted with complaints to the FCC because of the language, so there is reason to expect trouble. Welcome to the future under the religious right.
