Tin Mold Molds
I wana make a cake in the shape of France but there aren't any pans like that. Should I shape it out of foil?
My girlfriend loves everything France, and I want to make this as her birthday cake. I figured just make a custom mold in the shape of France with tin foil, but would this work?
Make a sheet cake. Trace a map of France and use it to cut the shape out. Take the leftover pieces and build up the Alps, etc. Then, frost it as if it were a physical geographical map in greens and browns.
What a great idea!

What is the best mold for paraffin wax casting?
Sculptures unite, for I need of thee! I know that it is possible to melt crayons into any mold: candy molds, muffin tins. These molds are completely impractical for me. It is crucial for me and everyone who likes to draw to find the proper thin, cylindrical, pencil-like mold. So, I thought, “Why not make my own mold?” I started with plaster, but the wax stuck to it like glue. I am going to experiment with other “releasing” substances: Vaseline maybe? Are there any other mold-making materials I can use that are heat resistant or at least more practical than plaster? The Crayola Crayon Maker is crap.
I am sure a silicone mold would work. You can use the 100% silicone caulking you find in hardware store. If you squirt some of it into water containing a good amount of dishwashing liquid it will not stick to your finger and you can shape it into patties and use it as mold material.
