Can a pending National Guard contract supersede Army IRR recall orders?
Situation: Boyfriend served 3 years in the Army and was granted early separation for academic pursuits and was thus placed into a contract in IRR. He deployed to Iraq for 15 months while in his unit. He is now a junior in college, and we're trying to find a loophole for him not to have to deploy. Please try to keep your political opinions to yourself, if possible. Our feeling is that the 30,000 troops to be deployed to Afghanistan is NOT a national emergency (not to mention this situation is what the Reserves are designed for), and thus contradicts the whole purpose of the IRR. While he has no problem deploying, it would completely undo and pause three years and 120 credits worth of work towards his engineering degree (which he wanted to use to be an Officer in the Army anyway). Would signing a contract with the National Guard prevent him from having to deploy regarding the IRR orders?
Thanks for your answers during this stressful time!!
NO. if he enlists in the Guard he is STILL subject to deployment with the Guard unit.

Sandhurst military academy and the army?
I was wondering how many recruits enter sandhurst with a degree and if a degree plays a big part in future promotion.
I am interested in becoming a troop commander(officer) in the royal engineers.
Are there any girls on here with advice or experience on sandhurst and what training was like.
Would it be beneficial to enter training with a degree.
thanks
Having a degree is not essential to becoming an officer but it sure helps. Graduates are promoted quicker than non grads. Some go straight to captain if they are PQOs (professionally qualified officers) such as doctors, lawyers & physios to name a few. To be in engineering you need a degree that is relevant to that particular skill set. Youe best bet is to speak to your local army careers officie or try the online office at www.armyjobs.mod.uk
Good luck

So what do medics do? And engineer troops? What’s the Provincial Reconstruction Team doing in Afghanistan? Just killing babies? It’s not that black and white, dude.
