A Book Containing Various WW1 Letters Home From The Trenches & Diary Extracts Made By Soldiers?
Hi everyone!
I am currently revising for my A level English Literature exam and need to find a book or books that contain diary extracts/letters home written by the soldiers with details about their thoughts, feelings, experiences etc. Do any of you have any recommendations or could you point me in the right direction?
Also a book containing extracts from news papers/journalists of the time would be of great help also!
Please help if you can, I was not sure what section to put this in (history/books/military) so sorry if you see this question floating around! I greatly appreciate it any help you can offer! Many thanks in advance! Xx

How to contact a WW1 and WW2 Veteran?
I am in high school and we are currently learning about WW1 and WW2. I've always been interested in the wars involving the United States. I'd like to learn more about the wars from a Veteran. Why? Because they were there. They witnessed it all. Any thing I read in my book or from my teachers, will never be real. And by real I mean, the book and my teachers weren't there when the war happened. The books and teachers weren't even around during the times of these wars. The books are based on basic notes made by the soldiers and opinions made by news papers and books. That is why, I would like to talk to a Veteran. Not just about the wars, but I would like to learn more about why they enlisted, if they were drafted, what their family thought, ect...Please tell me if you know how I could get in contact with a Veteran. I live in Cleveland Ohio, so even if I have to drive some where to talk to them in person, it will really help. I appreciate any help I get.

Well, I do believe that all but one WWI vets have all passed away.

Frank Buckles is the last WWI veteran alive. He is 109 years old. The information on the Wikipedia may help you.
You can go here for the remaining alive WWII veterans. Many have now passed on. My father was a WWII veteran and he died in 2009 at the age of 88 years old.

You might find WWII vets still in your community by going to the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars groups. Look in your telephone book. Go there and ask who served in WWII.
By now everyone you meet will be well over 80 years old. You would only find alive the very youngest soldiers, sailors, Marines from WWII. If they enlisted or were drafter in 1941 at the age of 18 years old today they would be 87 years old in 2010.
Or they may be in a nursing home. They would be happy to talk with you and let you write down their story.
Hurry. Most won't last too many more years.
